Eight treatments to spoil yourself with this winter

Winter treatments from Skin Renewal

Our bodies often get a little neglected in winter. It’s just that much easier to ignore healthy self-care opportunities when 90% of our bodies are covered up 90% of the time. The next thing you know, it’s September and you walk into spring with skin drier than the Gobi desert, lips cracked like tectonic plates, and an immune system begging for respite. Not the ideal way to start the warmer seasons.

And if you don’t have time to gussy yourself up at home (why forfeit an extra twenty minutes in bed?), leave it to the experts. Here are eight Skin Renewal treatments to spoil yourself with this winter.

Bump up your hydration

It’s a fact, your skin does get drier in winter. This is because cold winter air is less humid, so it draws the moisture from everything around it, including your skin, in a bid to ‘equalise’. Fortunately, you can mitigate the effects by adding a more hydrating serum to your skin care routine and invest in hydrating in-office facials like a hydrating PDT (photodynamic therapy) facial. It involves the application of an ultra-hydrating serum that’s boosted by a light treatment that encourages your skin to repair itself as well as produce more fibroblasts, the cells responsible for creating collagen.

Another great solution to thirsty skin is an injectable treatment like Juvederm Hydrate. Unlike other fillers that aim to restore volume, Juvederm Hydrate’s primary goal is to moisturise. It contains hyaluronic acid (a ‘water-binder’ that occurs naturally in your skin and can attract up to 1000 times its own weight in moisture) that’s injected just below the surface of your skin via mesotherapy (lots of micro-injections). The effects are immediate – smoother-looking skin that’s free of dehydration lines – and the results last between four and six months.

Say bye to pigmentation

Pigmentation is the bane of many a woman’s life. If you’re using skin tone-evening products and a high sun protection factor, but your complexion isn’t responding the way you’d like it then consider a peel or laser treatment. Both of these solutions will make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so winter is the perfect time to make your appointments.

At Skin Renewal, we offer several laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments like Fraxel’s Duo laser and Cutera’s Limelight IPL and Pearl laser. As far as peels go, our offering is very broad and ranges from those that are superficial to very intense TCA peels that will require a bit of downtime, depending on the strength of the peel.

To find out which would deliver the best results, it’s always best to make an appointment with one of our doctors who can assess your skin type as well as the seriousness of your pigmentation.

Rev up those legs

If you’re wanting to ditch your razor for good, laser hair removal is a great way to permanently blitz unwanted hair. Thing is, you’ll require several sessions, not just one, and afterwards your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. This is why the cooler months are ideal to invest in a course that can

Spider veins are another problem that’s ideal to tackle in winter. At Body Renewal, you have two options. One is sclerotherapy which involves injecting the veins and is ideal for larger ones. The other is treatment using a very precise laser that’s best for smaller veins.

Once you’ve been treated, either therapy will see the veins temporarily darken for a few days before the finally disappear, much like a bruise. This is why winter’s a great time to do it as you can hide away in stockings or pants before breaking out your new pins the moment shorts and skirts weather arrives.

Boost your immune system

Winter and flu usually go hand in hand, but they don’t have to. Health Renewal offers several customised intravenous vitamin therapy treatments and the Anti Viral Cocktail is perfect for sniffle season.

It contains potent anti-viral vitamins and minerals like vitamin C and selenium that deliver up to ten times the nutrients you’d get orally in a day. Just one or two infusions taken at the first signs of a cold or flu can greatly reduce your symptoms as well as the duration of any resulting viral infection.
