We all want to look our best on our wedding day, and showing off a healthy body with baby-soft skin is just the beginning! No matter how revealing (or non-revealing) your wedding dress, silky skin will treat you well on your honeymoon and will help you look healthy and radiant in your wedding pictures. Follow these easy steps to ensure your body looks and feels its best on your Big Day.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Our skin is constantly renewing itself, and as a result, we’re left with dry and dead skin cells. These shed naturally, however, it is essential to exfoliate your skin to help the process along. While the dead cells are present, your skin won’t absorb moisturising products properly and it’ll end up looking dull and dry. Prepare your skin for moisture with Dermalogica Exfoliating Body Scrub, R410. Weekly (or bi-weekly) exfoliation will transform lacklustre skin and leave it feeling soft and looking youthful.
Get your tan on
If you’re fair or light-skinned, you’ll probably want to get some sun before your Big Day. Go the safe route and opt for an at-home self-tanning lotion. Follow the instructions carefully and remember to exfoliate before, and moisturise afterwards. And a word of advice – if you’re inexperienced, self-tan can turn into a disaster. Apply it a couple of days before the wedding so that any mistakes can be rectified (plus, it’ll look subtler after a couple of days). We recommend St. Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Body Moisturizer.
Once you’ve perfected your tan, you have to keep your skin hydrated in order to prolong the colour. We love Caribbean Tan Milk And Honey Body Butter Tan Extender, R44.95. It leaves skin soft and moisturised and – best of all – extends the life of your tan! Continue to apply it every day leading up to your wedding.
Baby-soft skin is achievable as long as you look after it well. Be sure to moisturise at least once a day, especially after a warm shower or bath. Don’t spend too much time in the sun (it will dehydrate your skin) and to keep your shower / bath water warm rather than hot. Hot water scalds the skin and strips it of essential moisture. Butter up with The Body Shop’s HoneyMania Body Butter, R140 (from 16 September 2013). Not only does it offer intense moisturisation, it leaves your skin smelling delicious to!
Keep it toned
Nothing will give you a toned body except for a healthy diet and exercise routine. However, when you have a healthy lifestyle, a toning lotion could work in conjunction with what you’re already doing, to get your body in shape. To bring out your best assets, try Comfort Zone D-age Body Cream, R660. It protects against free radicals and damaging environmental factors while the juniper extract in the formulation has a draining action.
