How can I prevent stretch marks on my tummy during pregnancy?

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

Good day, I would like to know – during pregnancy, how can a woman prevent stretch marks on her tummy and other body parts? I am very protective over my tummy.

Stretch marks during pregnancy

Hi there. Thank you for your question. I hate to be the bearer of bad news… but there is only so much you can do to minimise the possibility of stretch marks. Very few ladies get away with zero stretch marks and this is understandable, as your skin really has to stretch out to accommodate a pregnant belly. The best you can do is mildly exfoliate throughout your pregnancy and apply hydrating products and nourishing products as much as you can throughout your pregnancy. The truth of the matter is that even this cannot guarantee that you will not get stretch mark. Some people are very lucky, but unfortunately the majority of us are going to put up with trying to get our post-pregnancy lax skins back into shape.

Used Dermelastic Serum with my first pregnancy and didn’t have any stretch marks and am currently using in my second pregnancy – still no stretch marks! I know this is somewhat luck of the genetic draw but every little thing helps, right!? It also smells very nice and has a nice, smooth consistency.

I agree with Lebo. Bio Oil rocks and is so cost-effective! A little goes a long way!

I used Bio Oil tissue oil on my tummy when I was pregnant, and I’m telling you I don’t have any stretch marks on my tummy.

Urgh! I am not a mother and won’t be anytime soon. I have stretch marks on my thighs and bum from puberty which took me a very long time to embrace. My mom who has had me and my sister is in her 50s and has ZERO cellulite and stretch marks. I clearly didn’t get those genes. She just uses the odd dollop of body lotion and vaseline jelly on her body every now and then.
