Love a good beauty blog? So do we! In celebration of local blogs, we’re teaming up with a beauty blogger every month to bring you the best in beauty news, reviews and tips. This month we’re chatting to Luzanne from Pink Peonies:
Describe your blog in one line: Pink Peonies is a South African beauty blog that features everything from product reviews, to beauty tips, and even hair and make-up tutorials.
When did you start blogging? I created Pink Peonies blog in March 2013.
What made you start a blog? Pink Peonies was created as a result of my love and passion for all things beauty-related. I started to really get into make-up and beauty back in 2011, and it took a whole two years for me to build up the courage to start a blog. The main reason why I started Pink Peonies was because I wanted to connect with like-minded individuals who love beauty and make-up just as much as I do, and create a space where I could be creative and challenge myself.
Is your blog your day job or do you have a full time job? I am a full-time blogger, I’m very fortunate to be able to do what I love for a living.
How often do you update your blog? I try to blog three times per week.
What do you focus on? I mainly focus on beauty product reviews (this includes make-up, skincare, hair care, nail care and bath and body products) and hair and make-up tutorials on my YouTube channel.
Three tips for someone who wants to start a blog? 1. Stay true to yourself. Blog about the things you feel passionate about and your readers will return because they find the content engaging and genuinely interesting. 2. Try to be organised – taking photos on the day you are planning to load your blog post will stress you out and probably decrease your creativity because you feel pressured. Plan your content and photographs, think about how you want to portray the products, and what exactly you want to say about each product. 3. Maintaining a blog takes a lot of work – does posting regularly fit in with your schedule? Ask yourself that before you start a blog, because if you only plan on blogging once a month, your readership will dwindle and people eventually won’t return to your blog at all.
What are the five beauty products you can’t live without? Maybelline One By One Volum’ Express Mascara, Sorbet BB Cream, Wet n Wild Walking On Eggshells Eyeshadow Trio, The Body Shop Honey Bronzer, MAC Syrup Lipstick.
Drugstore beauty or high-end products? Tough choice – I definitely feel there are some great budget-friendly options at the drugstore (my favourite BB cream, mascara and bronzer are all very affordable) but there are also certain high-end products that are staples in my make-up routine. I guess I’d have to say I prefer a mix of both – I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I discover drugstore gems that perform just as good (or even better) than their luxury brand counterparts. In saying that, though, there are certain high-end products I am yet to find affordable dupes for i.e. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder, MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer, theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter, and my beloved Urban Decay NAKED Palette.
What international blogs do you follow? Shew, I have a very long list but if I had to narrow it down to my absolute favourites: Vivianna Does Makeup, Inthefrow, I COVET THEE, MissMaven.com and Milk Bubble Tea.
