It’s becoming pretty clear that beauty and skincare are slowly gravitating towards natural ingredients and products. What’s finally driving this trend? Well according to a study done by the Green Beauty Barometer, one-in-four women say it’s important that their skin products are natural. This sentiment is even more pronounced amongst health and wellness-conscious female millennials. Over 60% of them are more likely to include a natural skincare product in their beauty routine.
Though we may want to know exactly what’s in the moisturiser we’re using, reading the labels on the back of bottles can cause major anxiety. Ingredient lists can often feel as long as an essay, and they’re almost impossible to understand.
So can we get a round of applause for Kiehl’s who have just launched Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream. It has a staggering 99.6% naturally-derived formula and is also paraben, mineral oil, synthetic colour and fragrance-free.
What’s in this little yellow pot of naturally-derived creamy goodness then? Well, it marries two of the world’s most renowned wellness ingredients – New Zealand Manuka Honey and Korean Red Ginseng Root.
Historically honey has been used for medicinal purposes dating back thousands of years because of it’s amazing nutritional and immune-boosting abilities. But why honey from New Zealand and not Rooibos or Green Tea? Manuka honey has a higher level of enzymes and more antioxidant activity – which helps protect the skin from UV and pollution damage and also stimulates collagen.
While Korean Red Ginseng regenerates the skin’s cellular energy pathways that begin to slow down or malfunction over time.
But you can’t just mix some honey and few roots in a pot and get a result. “A cream based product normally contains emulsifiers, thickeners, emollients, and powders,” says Dr Geoff Genesky, Kiehl’s Head Chemist. “For Pure Vitality, we made the decision to use only natural plant-derived versions of these powders. After 68 trials – the most in Kiehl’s history – we achieved the perfect balance of each ingredient in a formula that is also aesthetically appealing, indulgent and elegant.”
Together the ingredients promise to boost radiance, strengthen and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Since the launch was on Friday, we haven’t had a chance to test it properly yet but what we love most is how light the cream feels. A little bit also goes a long way and with proper use, we were assured a pot would last three months.
NEW Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream (R895) is available from March 2017 in selected Kiehl’s Stores Nationwide.
