New on the shelf

Monday, 5 June 2017

With so many new products on the shelves each month, it’s hard to decide which ones you should hit – or miss. Each month we bring you a selection of the latest beauty buys on our radar. We’ll also be sharing the love with BSA Gold Members in our June Trial Team, so don’t forget to make sure your profile is complete.

Yardley Eyeshadow Quads

Price: R129,92

Available: From selected Clicks, Dis-Chem, Edgars, Foschini stores and leading pharmacies nationwide.

The verdict: The range of Yardley Eyeshadow Quads will leave you spoiled for choice. Glittery gold, deep greys and pink, oh my! Each silky-textured quad has four high impact shades to match your mood and your ensemble. Available in four different varieties, we’ve narrowed it down to the Foxtail Lily quad, packed with a selection of rose gold, mauve, creamy brown and pearlescent glittery shades; and the Dynasty quad packed with a variety of deep orange, mauve and glittery gold tones. The Wanderlust quad with gold, cream and earthy browns is pretty great too and it’s perfect for a day-time look, while Revel is perfect for a night out, thanks to the dark grey and creamy mauves. Because choosing just one eyeshadow palette is way too hard, and basically, we really can’t choose.

Mii Cosmetics Passion Matte Lip Lover Lipstick

Price: R315

Available: Check Poise Brands online for a stockist locator near you.

The verdict: A matte lippie that’s suede-soft and long-lasting? Sign us up! Richly pigmented and creamy, the Bare 01 is an ideal everyday nude that pops, while the Adoration 02 shade is intense and packs a real punch for a smouldering look for date night. Mixed with an enriching blend of oils and waxes, it glides onto your lips and doesn’t leave it feeling dry. Not as matte as most matte shades, but a staple for your collection none the less.

Essence my must haves palettes & refills

Price: Empty 4-colour palette R34,95; empty 8-colour palette R44,95; each of the 32 individual colours, R34,95 each.

Available: From Clicks, Dis-Chem, selected Red Square Beauty and Pick n Pay stores.

The verdict: Being able to customise your own make-up has been on-trend overseas for a while, and like most trends, it took a while to reach our shores. So we were super excited when these little palettes arrived. The concept is simple, you purchase an empty four or eight colour case, and then you build your own multi-functional palette by using the special click-mechanism to pop refills into the case. There are 20 eyeshadows, five blushes and three lip powders to choose from – with various effects. Also included in the fun new range is a pink lip base for the lip powder, a highlighter and a bronzer, as well as fixing powder. A slight con for some beauties who use pro beauty brushes is that you may struggle to get enough on the brush when it comes to the bronzer or blush. The eyeshadows are a perfect size, and while it might work out to more $ than the average palette, this is a “bespoke” original you’re creating after all.

Essie Winter Collection

Price: R134,95

Available: From Clicks and Dis-Chem.

The verdict: Yeah, babies… break out the shag rug and pop some vinyl on the hi-fi. This collection nails the spirit of the London mod era of the swinging 1960s while creating a fresh allure with fascinating, multifaceted frosts, rich crèmes and thrilling shimmers. The colours include a dove grey “go with flow”, a peacock blue “satin sister”, a peach frost “oh behave”, a garnet red “party on the platform”, a bronzed mahogany “ready to boa” and a metallic gold “getting groovy”, because no ‘60s-inspired range would be shagalicious without one.

Rimmel ScandalEyes Bold Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

Price: R134,95

Available: From Clicks and Dis-Chem.

The verdict: Even if you’ve never dared to wear liquid liner before, Scandaleyes Bold Liquid Liner claims to make it super simple to sweep on fierce flicks and graphic shapes. We must confess to not being eyeliner pros, so we were keen to try out the revolutionary precise ball-tip applicator.

Firstly it goes on easy – ok we did make a royal mess the first time we used it – but we got used to it pretty quickly. The ball makes it easy to get a precise thick line and it didn’t irritate our eyes even when doing the waterline. It does last but you may need to touch up during the day. We wouldn’t choose this eyeliner for a thin line or for fine flicks, but it is great for those bold eye looks. So we guess it delivers on its name.

TRESemmé Botanique Nourish & Replenish Shampoo and Conditioner

Price: R79,99

Available: At selected retailers nationwide.

We recently attended the launch of the new TRESemmé Botanique Natural Hair Care Range. After hearing about the formula and smelling the deliciously fruity scent that permeated the air – thanks to the diffusers that mimicked the range’s Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera fragrance – we were pretty impressed. Suitable for all hair types, the new range is free from parabens, dyes, silicones and lower in sulphates – so you can get that super clean feel without the damage. The shampoo helps clean while retaining the moisture in your hair and the conditioner helps detangle your hair and lock in moisture. We tried it and quickly joined the tribe of hair bloggers and celebs like Chiano Sky who tested the range prior to the launch and loved it. A shampoo and conditioner that cares for your hair, has a great smell and it’s cost-effective √ Perfect for your winter hair care routine!

TRESemme shampoos and conditioners are fantastic. Even the original range. It is great value for money. I think I’ll give the new range a try too.

I swear by essence! It’s the one brand that I truly believe is absolute value for money. They sell out of all my daily products that I use from them, so when they do come in stock I buy 3! Looking forward to testing the eyeshadows.
