New on the shelf: March 2017

Wednesday, 29 March 2017

Lots of beauty products land on our desk every day and we have the rather difficult task of testing them and making sure we let you in on all the new and exciting ones to launch. We’ll be sharing the love with BSA Gold Members in our April Trial Team. So don’t forget to make sure your profile is complete.

BioNike Defence Two-Phase Lotion Eye Makeup Remover

Price: R129,95
Available: Exclusively from Dis-Chem stores.
The verdict: The entire BioNike range is always a joy to use. We love that all of their products are Nickel tested, and fragrance and gluten-free so they’re ideal for sensitive and reactive skins. Simply shake the bottle well to mix the water and oil formula (hence the two-phase part of the name), apply on a damp cotton pad to the eye and gently swipe away and no more panda eyes. Suitable for contact lens wearers.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Hydrating Mist

Price: R350 for 100ml
Available: From selected departmental stores.
The verdict: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is not a cult favourite for nothing. So we were super excited to try their brand new way to hydrate skin. It sprays on with a fine mist and dries rapidly. It’s infused with soothing extracts of apple leaf, pomegranate, goji and coffee seed, which soothes and moisturises skin, leaving it feeling beautifully soft. As beloved as the cream is, a lot of beauties have been put off by the smell, so you’ll be happy with this delicately fragranced, lemon water and rose experience. We’re loving this effective multi-tasker, and it’s perfect for popping in a travel or gym bag (it’s packaged in an airline approved travel size).

L.A. Girl STROBElite Strobing Powder

Price: R149
Available: Exclusively from Dis-Chem stores
The verdict: This strobing powder is a great product to take your beauty look to the next level without trying too hard. The soft and silky powder gives a subtle glow and creates dimensions simply by highlighting the bits you want to accent. The best thing about it? The fact that you don’t need a 20-minute tutorial to use it just a make-up brush. Apply to your cheeks for a fresh glow, sculpt your nose with a simple sweep of powder down the middle, and enhance your pout with a dab just above your Cupid’s bow. Available in 12 different shades, you’ll be spoiled for choice with champagne, to pearlescent silver tones for every look and skin tone.

L.A. Girl Shady Slim Brow Pencil

Price: R85
Available: Exclusively from Dis-Chem stores
The verdict: If precision is your thing, reach for this reliable brow pencil. It has a super skinny tip for firm control, which allows you to create thin, realistic lines that resemble the tiny brow hairs you’re trying to create the illusion of, without going overboard. The spoolie brush on the opposite end ensures that everything goes exactly as planned. Good value for money but more suited to those who do have some brow hair to work with.

NIVEA Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle Serum Pearls

Price: R229, 40ml
Available: From selected retailers and pharmacies.
The verdict: On opening the box you’re either going to be intrigued by the transparent bottle which allows you to see the serum pearls inside or think, why would I want to put sago pudding on my face? But don’t be put off, it’s fun to see them popping out the bottle and they do melt smoothly into the skin. We like the nifty pump action bottle and that the cream leaves no greasy residue after application. A little goes a long way and it’s suitable for application day or night before moisturising. This serum promises to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and soften the skin. We haven’t been testing it for long enough to tell if it works on our wrinkles yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

Revlon Love Her Madly Breathless Eau de Toilette

Price: R320 for 50ml
Available: From selected departmental stores and pharmacies.

You can never go wrong with a little pink, and not just on Wednesdays! Feel spontaneous and free-spirited with Revlon’s new addition to their Love Her Madly fragrance range. This sensuous scent evokes romance and sensuality with its bouquet of citrus, jasmine, Patchouli and caramel. Apparently, the buttery caramel note is often incorporated into floral perfumes as it enhances their subtle nature. It also wins this month’s prize for most fun press drop. The flirty, light pink fragrance came with a giant, inflatable flamingo we named Flo. We #LoveHerMadly, and she’s moved into BSA HQ permanently.
