Night time treats for a beautiful complexion

Monday, 3 August 2015

A daytime moisturiser followed by an SPF is essential, but many women don’t realise the importance of good quality night-time products. While we sleep, our bodies (and our skin) recharge and regenerate, making it the perfect time to introduce some rich, nourishing ingredients.

Here, the evening treats we’re indulging in:

SAMPAR Pure Perfection Nocturnal Rescue Mask, Price TBC
Perfect for oily and combination skin, this mask tightens the pores, helps clear blackheads and redness and repairs and soothes blemished skin. By the morning the skin is matte and purified.

African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Firming Night Cream, R149.95
Locally produced, this hard-working night cream helps reduce dryness, loss of firmness, puffiness and the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It let’s your skin reap all the benefits of good quality rooibos (which is filled with antioxidants).

Vichy Idéalia Skin Sleep, R450
The first night cream from Vichy that recreates the look of a good night’s sleep, regardless of how many hours you had! It concentrates on the tell-tale signs of a bad night’s sleep – a “grey” coloured skin, a tired look and a rough, dull complexion.

Sh’Zen Sleep Easy Pillow Mist, R165
Struggling to have a good night’s rest? This mist is filled with calming sedative oils like sweet marjoram, soothing lavender, clarifying lemon, balancing geranium, sandalwood and mandarin. Spray all over your pillow for some easy shut-eye.

Clarins Bright Plus Brightening Repairing Night Cream, R600
Filled with high-performance active ingredients, this moisturiser is designed to make dull and uneven skins brighter, more translucent, flawless and more even toned.

I tried the Clarins Night Cream and it gave me a pimple almost immediately after applying it! I am very disappointed. I didn’t expect this from such an expensive cream that is dermatologist approved. Moral of the story- always a do a patch test before using a new product, especially if you have sensitive skin. Luckily this was just a sample I tried out and I did not purchase it myself.

Currently using the Clarins night cream featured above and I love it! Very hydrating without being heavy and it makes my skin so supple and radiant.

I apply blemish and age defense followed by hydrating B5 and then moisturizer every single night. Once a week I apply a hydration mask, rotating between avene hydrating mask, Yllume Illuminating mask and Gatineau hydrating mask and sleep over night with it. Of the three I have to say the Yllume mask gives the most impressive results with my skin looking luminous and brighter the next morning
It’s super important to nourish our skin at night .
For my little ones I apply a rich cream once a week like Xerodiane and let them sleep with it.
We also use alot of the Avene and Uriage thermal water sprays to keep our skin hydrated in the winter.
