What we say:
First of all, a big thank you to BeautySouthAfrica for sending me this sample. When I was informed that I would be reviewing a “balm”, I was just expecting a typical balm that moisturises your chapped lips. All my perceptions were completely changed when I first looked at the Yardley Rollo Gloss Smooch Balm.
It was a perfect lip balm with grape seed oil, vitamin E, Shea butter and SPF 15. It also has very fine shimmers in it. It’s more like a lipstick than a simple balm. The one I received was Strawberries and Cream flavour, and it smells yum. I am not a big fan of light-coloured lipstick/lip-glosses as they hardly show up on my pigmented lips. So colour-wise I am disappointed. I would have preferred something darker in shade. On the other hand, I totally liked the feel of the balm; it moisturised my lips and kept them soft. It can be used on its on own or on top of a matte lipstick.
The same casing patterns are seen on most of the Yardley lip balms, and it locks with a click so it is travel friendly. But I’m not sure if it can handle all the abuse in my handbag. I would love to try Cocoa or Berry Shades, if they are any, in this range.
When my package arrived I was expecting just a plain old lip balm, but voilà! I am totally impressed with the Rollo Gloss Smooch Balm! I like the fact that it has grape seed oil, rich in omega 3 and 6, which nourishes and moistures my lips. I am also a big fan of products with shea butter, which is always rich in natural oils. Also with an SPF 15, it protects my “Jolie” lips from the summer sun.
The balm surely does glide on smoothly and the fragrance is a divine fruity smell. It isn’t sticky or heavy and leaves behind a soft colour. It’s a good alternative to lipstick for the weekends if you’re having breakfast with friends or just a quick trip to the store! Highly recommended!
Yardley’s Rollo Smooch Balm has a really nice, sweet smell (very light and barely noticeable). I also like the slight pink colour and gloss particles in the strawberry balm, but I must admit that I don’t think the moisturising effect was long lasting. I loved the packaging from the first glance; it comes in pink and seems very durable, closes nicely and opens easily.
There was no distinct taste in this product, which could be a good thing, since I wasn’t licking it off all the time! I really like the colour of the product and the light smell of it, but I think because it doesn’t have much of a lasting moisturising effect, it can easily make your lips look dry, which may not be that good for older users. Teens would probably love it though.
