Question: Adult Acne

Hi, I have suffered with acne since 13 years old. Has it on my face, back, chest, between my thighs and occasionally my private areas Went on the oil and anti biotics and eventually when I was 21 Roacutan. It cleared up everywhere except my face but that may be as I never finished the 9 months. Side effects were too bad. My question is I looking for a skin care solution. I have sensitive skin that burns with harsh products and have oily areas and very dry areas. My pimples are only on my cheeks. I want a product that will clear the acne but not hurt my sensitive skin an also help with the marks that acne has left. Looking at bioderma, cetaphil, eucerin, benzac, and nutriderm which of these will be best for me or should I just take one from each range that has the properties I need. Eg; use the face wash from benzac, the toner from eucerin, and the face cream from nutriderm with a serum from bioderma? Please help I need to buy some products by Friday as I am using soap and body lotion on my face at the moment

Answer

Wow. Hang on and stop the bus right there! Please do not go out and buy a heap of things for your skin. I understand that this situation is very frustrating, but you cannot bombard your skin like this it will only make things worse and your sensitivity issue is only going to become magnified if you do this. Please just slow down and we need to take this one step at a time. Firstly, before we even get to products… from what you are describing, it seems to me like you may still have something out of balance in your system in terms of hormones or something that is keeping your skin this reactive. So I want you to consider seeing one of our Skin Renewal doctors who specialise in integrative health to help you get the cause of the problem under control. When it comes to dealing with your skin right now, you need to start slowly. Start with just a cleanser and a very good facial sunblock. Cetaphil cleanser is a good option, or if you want something a bit more "active" then you can use Lamelle’s Clarity Cleanser. Daily, you are going to need to apply a good facial sunblock, I highly reccommend the Heliocare range for this purpose, you’ve mentioned Bioderma, which is also a good option. Do not worry about toners and spot treatments and all those other things to start off with. At night, I suggest using a barrier repairing product to get that uncomfortable and sensitive feeling that you are getting sorted out ASAP. Lamelle’s Serra Restore cream is specially made for this purpose. So for the 1st 4 weeks, that is all I want you to do: 1) Cleanser (morning and night) 2) Heliocare sunblock as your day moisturiser every day 3) Serra Restore Cream at night. After those 4 weeks, we can then slowly start introducing the things that your skin needs: You would need to look at introducing a Retinol product as your night cream as this will start helping to prevent and control break outs and help to prevent blockages and get that skin functioning properly – you will have to introduce this slowly. You can then also look at introducing a spot treatment for the active break outs (I’d suggest something like Clarity Active Control Gel). We will then also have a better idea of what you’ll need in terms of a day moisturiser. I would not reccommend using toner for a while. If you need help getting these products, please contact your nearest Skin Renewal branch so we can help you get what you need.
