Question: Bald Beard

Hi Dr Allem. I shave three or four times a week. But in the last four months or so, I have developed a small bald patch slightly bigger than a R5 coin on my lower cheek where it meets my jaw. It is perfectly smooth and hairless. Can you tell me what is causing it and if there is anything I can do to fix it, please? Thank you.

Answer

Thanks so much for your query. In all honesty I’d have to take a closer look at you to give you a real diagnosis, BUT it sounds to me like you may have developed alopecia. It is not uncommon. If left untreated, however, it can progress and become worse. So you have 2 options… you can either get rid of all the hair in the area by simply coming in for some laser treatments and removing the hair all together. OR, if you would like to try and get the hair to grow again, we can do some mesotherapy and there are some products that you can use containing growth factors to try and stimulate the growth of the hair again. Why don’t you give us a call at one of our Skin Renewal Branches and let us assist you.
