Question: Dark Cicles

What causes dark circles under the eyes and what to use to get rid of them?

Answer

There are quite a few things that could cause dark circles. Sometime it’s genetic. Most often it is as a result of having poor lymphatic drainage and poor circulationn around the eye area. It can be as a results of stress and poor sleeping habits, which will results in poor drainage. It can be due to injury. It can be due to other systemic issues such as poor kidney function. It can even be due to having very high cheek bones and deep set eyes, causing a "shadow" look around the eyes and making it look like you have dark circles and tired eyes. There are a few things we can do. Provided the dark circles are not there because of illness or a systemic problem, we can place filler under the eyes, giving the under eye area a little volume very often sorts this problem out. Alternatively, we can look at treatment options to strengthen the skin and improve drainage and circulation (such as carboxy and lasr therapy). We can also look at the use of active products specifically made for these problems, such as Skin Medica’s Dermal Eye Repair. Most often, patients who do a combination of al of these have the very best, longest lasting results.
