Question: Dry Dark/red Patches

Recently I have been getting these dark or red dry patches on my face. I've been using Neutrogena Visibly Even face wash for a year now. I recently started with the visibly even moisturiser and l'oreal even perfect night cream. I don't have problems with skin tone, but it seems like all my products are for that, could it be the problem? Which products would you suggest?

Answer

A few things stand out for me. 1) Dark, dry patches (even though you’re using a moituriser)… to me indicates a problem with barrier function in the skin. 2) Is your cleanser for skin tone? Or for oil control and breakout management? You do not want a soapy, very foaming cleanser if you’re struggling with dry patches. 3) If you are using products that are indicated for a condition that you do not have, then you are wasting money on active ingredients that your skin doesn’t need at this stage and possibly missing out on giving your skin the things it DOES need. So my suggestion to you is, make sure you’re using a gentle cleanser that isn’t excessively soapy, and get yourself Lamelle’s Serra restore Cream and use this for about 8 weeks so we can sort out that barrier function. Most importantly, use a good facial SPF every single day over your moisturiser. Once you’ve done this for a period of 8 weeks, your barrier should be well on it’s way to working properly and then you will have a much better idea of identifying what you NEED to use by looking at the condition of your skin.
