Question: From Masoodah Ebrahim

I've been suffering from acne my entire teen and tween years, at some point in my teens it got to a state whereby it was classified as severe acne and put on a very strong dosage of Roacuttane... thankfully it's cleared with normal breakouts when it's that time of the month. My main issue is I can never find a product that agrees with my skin or that actually clears up the oiliness and dry patches. Is there a skin care regiment that I can follow or a product that can help? PS: I'm exceptionally hairy as well and low threshold for pain.

Answer

Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear about your situation with your skin. It sounds to me like your breakouts may be due to hormone imbalances, especially if it gets worse when it is that time of the month, and the fact that you mentioned that you are very hairy. I would maybe advise that you have your hormones tested to see whether your testosterone levels might be elevated, this can definitely be a contributing factor to oiliness and breakouts. (you can visit www.healthrenewal.co.za to find out more about hormone testing). From a skincare perspective, there are various product available to help clear up and decrease the oiliness. Lamelle Clarity range are designed to manage acne related concerns without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Using over the counter products might strip away your skin natural oils, which is why you normally feel very tight and dry after using it. These oils functions as a defence against pathogens and bacteria, so removing it completely will lead to MORE breakouts in the long run. It is a vicious cycle that many patients gets trapped in.  So, using a product that will remove the EXCESS oils without drying out the skin is vital. The range consist of  a cleanser,  spot treatment, day and night cream, as well as an oral supplement Acnevelle that will help with inflammation form the inside. I would recommend using a serum called Lamelle HA corrective serum daily, this serum contains Hyaluronic acid which will help with dehydration and dry patches. You can visit https://onlineskinshop.co.za/product-brand/lamelle-clarity/ to find out more about the products. Lastly I would recommend that you visit one if the Skin Renewal clinics so that one of the Medical professionals can do a thorough skin analysis.
