Question: Health benefits of blue berries and raspberries

I've heard that blue berries and raspberries are some of the healthiest fruits one can eat. Is this true, and if so, why? What are some of the health benefits of eating them?

Answer

Blue berries and raspberries are among the more nutrient-rich foods available and are high in antioxidants that are thought to fight the ills of ageing. Research has shown that a woman who ate more than 3 servings of blueberries or strawberries a week had a 34% lower heart attack risk than those who ate less of them. The reason is, berries have high concentrations of anthocyanin, which is an antioxidant that helps lower blood pressure and improve blood vessel function. Another study has found that women who ate more blueberries and strawberries experienced slower mental decline with age, among other anti-ageing benefits. Blueberries are also an excellent source of vitamins C and K, Manganese and dietary fibre, while raspberries are a great source of vitamin C, manganese, B vitamins 1-3, folic acid, magnesium, copper and iron.
