What I found works for me, is to buff the nail gently to remove any oils from the nail bed then prep the nail with a base coat. I apply one thin coat to the nail and give it at least a minute to dry before I apply the next coat. Once both coats are dry you can apply a top coat and leave it to set for at least another minute. Dipping your fingers in a bowl of cold water also helps to set your nails in between coats.
