Question: Question from CherylGD

Good Day, I'm trying to better understand parabens and what their inclusion in various products means. There are so many conflicting reports. One review says they are linked to breast cancer, another report says they occur naturally in blueberries! I am trying to be more aware of product contents and avoid harmful ingredients but how dangerous are parabens? All my hair products, body washes and a number of hydrating masks contain them.

Answer

Hello. PARABENS are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives by cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. They can be found in shampoos, moisturisers, shaving gel, personal lubricants, topical pharmaceuticals, spray tanning lotions, makeup and toothpaste.  They are also used as food additives. With the whole controversy with parabens causing breast cancer or any forms of cancer there are no proven results to speculate that parabens are dangerous.
