Common foods that we eat with their skins on are the worst offenders. These items are the most risk if not bought organically – apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, grapes, spinach and strawberries. Fruits and vegetables with thick skins that are removed before eating (think melons, avos corn, etc.) tend to have the lowest amounts of pesticide residue; so you’re ok if these aren’t organic. Buy fresh produce that’s in season for the lowest risk of additives, and don’t forget organic meat and eggs! I’d opt for these above fresh produce, as the threat of hormones and antibiotics seems more damaging.
