Question: Question from Eunice Kok

Dear Dr I’m a 24 year old white female. My skin tone is fair to medium. I would like to know what facial skincare products (cleansers, toners, moisturisers, eye cream, day/night cream etc.) to use. I have normal to dry skin. I do not suffer from acne or other skin ailments. I have a very light to medium skin (more on the light side) and do need protection from the sun. My whole life I have been using Rooibos from Clicks, and I am very happy with that product, as I do not have a problem skin of any kind, I thought that is good enough. I do not know whether the brand is good/not and what else is there that might be better. I do, however have a lot of wrinkles on the side of my eyes, but my fiancée says it’s because I laugh/smile all the time. SO even though my skin is fine now, I would definitely want to take care of it for the future. I would like to know is there any facial product you could recommend for my skin type, and something I can use for the wrinkles around my eyes etc. I want to take care of my body and really want to know which product to use. Thank you so much!

Answer

Thanks so much for this question. You need to remember that an over-the-counter product is OK for general moisturising and for general maintenance. But if you are wanting something active that is going to treat your skin and prevent premature ageing or treat a condition that you already have, then you are going to need a product with potent active ingredients. With what you have described to me, I would suggest something like Lamelle’s Nourish range. It has fantastic antioxidants which protect you from getting further damage, it will also help you repair some of the damage that has already been done. The products also contains fantastic peptides that work on lines and wrinkles and the range has a really fantastic eye cream. It is also very important to remember to also apply your sunblock every single day, as sun exposure dramatically speeds up skin ageing (even if you are indoors all day, you are constantly exposed to UVA).
