Question: How can I treat flaky skin?

Hi there, I have a fair combination skin, however when the season changes, my forehead skin flakes, it extremely dry. Why does this happen and what can I use?

Answer

Our skins actually can display symptoms such as this for a number of reasons, some of them including hormones, medication, inappropriate skin care. What it comes down to is that the skin’s barrier becomes impaired, and for this reason, the skin is not able to retain its moisture and therefore the water loss from the skin is massive and therefore it dries and flakes. The solution here is twofold. 1) We need to try and repair the skin’s barrier. This is achievable by using specifically designed barrier repairing products, namely something like Lamelle’s Serra Range. These products are available at all our Skin Renewal Branches and they really are great products that are very affordable. In addition to this, you can also take a good supplement of Omega’s which helps to hydrate the skin internally. Supplements such as these are also available at all Skin Renewal Branches. 2) We need to ascertain what has caused this problem in the first place. In most cases, the cause is the use of the incorrect or inappropriate products for your skin. In which case, if this is what has happened with you, then the Serra products will sort this out for you. If it is due to hormones or medication, then we need to investigate further to help you with those issues. If there is anything else I can help you with, please do contact us again.
