Question: Question from Lize-Mari Smith

Hi, i have ice pick scars (but not very deep ones) from acne i perviously suffered from as well as enlarged pores due to my oily skin. I also have 1 red scar on my cheek, that i guess is also from my acne. I still get breakouts but its a lot more under control. I would love to know wether there are any treatments available to heal/improve the appearance of the scars as well as decrease the size of my pores. Any affordable options maybe? I'm still a student. Thanks so much

Answer

Thank you so much for your enquiry. The good news is, YES, there are some really great options for you. What you need to bear in mind, is that scarring is very deep in the skin and therefore, to get you a good result in a safe and effective manner, we have to take our time in treating this, otherwise the potential is in fact there to make it worse. So if you are on a budget, this in fact works in your favour, as you would have to look at spreading your treatments out over the course of a year or so. The best thing to do with scarring is to use a combination of treatment modalities and topical prescription for on-going improvement. Unfortunately I cannot really give you an exact “prescription” without actually looking at your particular scarring, but the treatments could include a combination of 2 or more of the following (depending on the severity and depth of your scars): Medical needling, carboxy therapy, Laser resurfacing, chemical resurfacing, meso-therapy. My suggestion is that you come and see me or one of our DR’s at your nearest Skin Renewal and weigh up your options. You can find your nearest branch at www.skinrenewal.co.za
