Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door’s got a hot, new look

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

Last week the PR peeps from Elizabeth Arden invited a bunch of beauty editors to a mysterious launch at the Fugard Theatre in Caledon Street. Upon arrival, we discovered the venue had been given a retro New York-style makeover that included street signs, lamp posts and cute little concession stands offering yummy treats like popcorn, mini hot dogs and burgers.

After a bit of schmingling and mingling, we were led into the theatre itself where we got to take in a fabulous Broadway-style show that whisked us through the history of Arden throughout the decades. The musical line up was also inspired by ‘the big apple’ (think Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York and Alicia Keye’s Empire State of Mind…) as this is where Elizabeth Arden first opened shop, on 5th Avenue, New York.

If I can make it there, I’ll make it… aaaa-nnyyy-where…

Still, most of us didn’t have a clue as to what the launch was about… until a giant red door made it’s way onto the stage. Once it was opened, however, all was revealed…

What’s behind the red door? Tell us, tell us!

As it turns out, Elizabeth Arden is going to relaunch it’s most iconic perfume, Red Door!

Here’s the original Red Door perfume, the one you know and love or know somebody else who does.

The fragrance first made its debut in 1989 and now, 22 years later, it’s going to be be relaunched with a fresh new look.? However, die hard fans shouldn’t worry, ‘new’ Red Door is still going to be the same classic floral scent you love, but now it’ll boast luxe new packaging. Check it out:

Gorgeous, right?

Another highlight of the event was getting to meet Arden’s new make-up artists; Gina Myers, Nthato Mashishi and Melissa van Zyl.

Gina, Nthatho and Melissa.

I asked each of them what their one ‘can’t live without it’ Arden product is and they all had different favourites. Gina, who’s a dead ringer for A Beautiful Mind actress Jennifer Connolly, says she’s crazy about Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation. She loves it’s natural-looking, buildable coverage and mentioned that she’s impressed with the range’s new shades for darker skin tones.

As for Nthato, he’s a big fan of Eight Hour cream and lauds it’s versatility, saying he can use it on ‘eyebrows, lips, anywhere’. Melissa, however, is smitten with Intervene Makeup SPF 15. She says it’s got the creamiest, dreamiest texture and, aside from giving great coverage, contains active ingredients to help fend off wrinkles.

Anyway, if you’re a Red Door fan, keep an eye out for the luxe-looking new bottle. It’s going to be available at Elizabeth Arden counters nationwide as of September.
