Fragrance: What to buy this summer

The new season sees a rise of new fragrances, each one offering something unique to captivate the senses and lift the spirits. We’ve compiled a summer scent wish-list comprising five new releases you absolutely have to try! And with something for every budget, you may want to consider these for festive gifting too.

Fragrance: What to buy this summer 1

Avon Far Away Infinity EDP (50ml – R239.00, available at www.avon.co.za)
Calling all travel-lovers, this one’s for you! This floral fruity fragrance is back with a brand new look, boasting a more glamorous exterior. Each fragrance in the Avon Infinity range transports the senses to a different Far Away destination – Infinity takes us straight to the Mediterranean. Top notes include bergamot, marigold and gardenia, at the heart you’ll find orange blossom, jasmine and jasmine sambac and base notes include vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood. It’s sweet and spicy and a great versatile “everyday” scent – it can take you from the office, to coffee with the girls, to a hot date.

Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Pomegranate EDT (100ml – R460.00, available at Edgars, Woolworths and Foschini)
The Green Tea family continues to grow and this latest member is a welcome vibrant addition. It’s a fruity floral scent with top notes of scarlet pomegranate, granadilla and bergamot, heart notes of earl grey tea, white magnolia and violet leaves, and a base of gorgeous raspberry blossom and white moss. It’s sweeter than some of the other Green Tea scents and we find it sparkling and energetic. It’s the perfect fragrance for a hot day and it’s full of energy and joy – just what we need!

Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers Sunlit Flowers EDT (100ml – R460.00, available at Edgars, Woolworths and Foschini)
If you’re a fan of the original Sunflowers, you’ll adore this fresh new version. Capturing the invigorating warmth of a summer shower and the freshness of the rain, the scent is playful, dewy and warm. It opens with notes of juicy mandarin, red currant and sparkling bergamot before beautiful magnolia, dewy violet, peach and jasmine come to the fore. Once it’s settled onto your skin you’ll enjoy the warm embrace of radiant musks, white amber and sandalwood. The fragrance is youthful and happy and it’s a really easy, wearable scent for the warmer months.

Fragrance: What to buy this summer 2

Les Eaux De Chanel Paris-Riviera EDT (125ml – R2070.00, available at select Edgars stores)
The Les Eaux De Chanel collection was launched in 2018, and is unique in the realm of Chanel. Each scent invites you to travel, to escape without reason and sail away. With Les Eaux De Chanel, there is no need to go anywhere to savour the scent of faraway places on the skin. The newest addition to the Les Eaux De Chanel family is Paris-Riviera, a luminous floral fragrance that reflects the sunny and joyful spirit of the French Riviera. In the 1920s the French Riviera was “a sun-filled Eden that was a magnet for artists,” says Olivier Polge, creator of the scent. To embody the carefree atmosphere of those nights, Polge teamed jasmine with neroli from the orange blossoms found in the South of France. The scent opens with a refreshing veil of orange peel and petit grain and over time, the softness of benzoin balm and sandalwood settles on the skin. A one-way trip to a legendary Mediterranean coast? Yes please!

Berdoues Collection Grands Crus EDP (100ml – R1595.00, exclusive to Foschini)
Maison Berdoues has been creating beautiful perfumes for over 100 years, applying French high-perfumery techniques to ensure uncompromising quality. Collection Grands Crus has gathered the finest ingredients in the world and brought them together to create a unique collection of perfumes, which is finally available in SA.

The collection comprises eleven scents inspired by eleven regions of the world and the unique olfactory identity associated with those areas. From the cherry blossoms in Japan to Indian teas and jasmine from Egypt, there’s something for everyone.

We’ve been using Somei Yoshino, a gorgeous floral fragrance filled with the scent of Japanese cherry blossom. Somei Yoshino is a noble blend of shiso from Japan, jasmine sambac from India and patchouli from Indonesia that meld into a harmonious balanced, floral bouquet. It is delicate yet strong, subtle yet long-lasting. A must-have for all floral fragrance lovers.

  1. Avon Far Away Infinity EDP, so i am one that loved the original far away. So i thought why not give the new one a try as well. And your guess was as good as mine, good product and simply smells all kinds of nice. The bottle is still portable which makes it easy to carry around.

  2. I am excited to try the Berdoues Collection Grands Crus & then more on the affordable side Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers Sunlit Flowers EDT & the Avon Far Away Infinity EDP!!!
