Thierry Mugler launches limited edition A*Men Pure Havane

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

Earlier this week, I attended a dinner held by Thierry Mugler and GQ to celebrate the launch of Mugler’s newest limited edition fragrance, Theirry Mugler A*Men Pure Havane.

Thierry Mugler,amen pure havane
See how the box has been inspired by a cigar? Clever…

The event was held in the President’s Room of the Table Bay hotel and guests were treated to a Jack Daniels tasting. I’ve never been a whiskey drinker, but got to try Jack Daniels ‘Old Number 7’ with Appletiser which is absolutely lovely. To up the fanciness factor even further, we got to nibble on smoked, honey-glazed quail.

Anyway, getting back to the scent… This is Mr. Mugler’s third flanker regarding his original A*MEN. (The first two were Pure Coffee and Pure Malt.) It’s a yummy, tobacco-infused gourmand that makes use of honeyed tobacco leaves, patchouli, amber and bitter cocoa. The tobacco top note and bitter cocoa bottom note help ensure the scent stays in the sexy, smoky zone rather than dissolve into sweetsville. This is definitely a scent for men as opposed to boys.

In regards to guests, an interesting mix was out and about…

Lady Kitty Spencer and Espresso’s Liezl van der Westhuizen.

Like Liezl’s trendy swept up ‘do? It’s the work of Anadia at Palladium Hair Company in the new Cape Quarter. Cover girl actress Vanessa Haywood was also on the scene…

Vanessa and her model friend Sjaniel Turrell.

Sjaniel owns an interesting fashion company called Rarely Worn. Essentially, she organizes big clothing sales where you can ‘recycle’ all those clothes that you bought on a whim, but never really got around to wearing. To be kept in the loop regarding her next sale, pay a visit to her Facebook group. And speaking of fabulous fashion, get a load of Vanessa’s uber-sexy shoes:

They’re Mui Mui, darling. She says she got them in Sorrento, Italy…

After a bit of mingling and schmingling, we moved on to a delicious dinner that was inspired by all the chocolate, honey and smoke in the fragrance. Just take a look at how good this looks:

Juniper springbok and wild mushroom sweetbread terrine with port espresso and dark chocolate dusted beetroot. Pure Havane, girls, Pure Havane…

In all, this was a truly decadent night out so a big thank to Jill Grogor of Zebra Square (the PR co that organised the bash).

Ayanda and Jill
Jill and Good Hope fm’s Ayanda Tini who you can also catch on the SABC1 soapie, Montana.

If you’re a fan of the original A*Men or like tobacco-infused scents, make a plan to sniff Pure Havane EDT, R895 for 50mls. Just get a move on, because it’s barely hit the shelves and has already completely sold out at Edgars in the V&A Waterfront…

There is just something wonderful about “tobacco-infused” scents that I love.
