Five hairstyles to try for your matric dance

Wednesday, 18 June 2014

Your matric dance hairstyle should be three things: pretty, comfortable and classy. If you’re still deciding on how you’re going to be wearing your hair on the big night, why not try one of these styles?

1. Side swept
This works especially well with very long hair. The hair is swept to one side (in the same direction as your side parting) and then secured with a clip. Wear it with a strapless dress for a mermaid-inspired look!

2. The half up-do
You can do this with both straight and curly hair – ask your hairdresser to take half your hair up, but to leave a few pieces loose on either side. This less-than-perfect style is perfect if you’re planning to let loose on the dance floor!

3. The classic up-do
This style may need some practice but when perfected it looks absolutely stunning. Ask your hairdresser to take your hair up in different sections, and to focus on creating a few “rolls” on top of your head like Audrey Hepburn’s in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

4. The accessorised up-do
There’s nothing like a pretty flower or hair accessory to add an edge to your ball gown. Find something in a colour that either matches your dress, or that’s totally opposite to your dress – you’ll be amazed at how cool the contrast looks.

5. Romantic curls
No matter how many times we see it, soft curls never go out of style. Wear yours to the side or with a middle parting and remember to use hairspray to keep them in place!

I like the look in the middle, it’s very classy but would still work depending on the type of dress that goes with it.

It seems that any type of wavy/curl hair style is a current favorite. At my sister’s dance most of the girls had their hair in a curled side-swept style. Its elegant and feminine.

If I was in matric I would go for the Half up-do

My sister needs to read this. She is in matric and clueless about everything regarding her make up, dress and hair style.
