Top 4 salon treatmentsAs a client you’ll always want your stylist to use only the best on your hair – not just in terms of product, but also good value for your money. There are a few treatments that may seem really great, but are not as long lasting or effective as you’d expect.

Here are my top four recommendations, so you’ll know what to ask for and what to expect.

Kerastase Fusio-Dose Instant Hair Replenishing Ritual

It’s the first in-salon treatment that incorporates different textures, fragrances and experiences, tailor-made for your hair and scalp. The process begins with a consultation by your stylist to define your hair’s needs. It’s then followed by a fusion of the Concentrate (in the bottles) and Boosters (caps with intense ingredients) that targets all hair damage. What makes damage easy to target is the nifty slide chart – which not only puts you at ease that there’s a scientific system behind the treatment, you also won’t feel as if you’ve been bulldozed to agree to a specific treatment by the stylist.
(The cost varies from salon to salon)

Nioxin Scalp Renew Dermabrasion Treatment

This anti-ageing treatment for your scalp dissolves away the effects of ageing. Scalp Renew adds density and strength to hair while increasing collagen production, immediately opening the follicle sites and increasing cellular turnover. This natural dermabrasion treatment is a patented anti-ageing treatment that restores your scalp and hair by removing hardened collagen, build-up and dead-skin cells. Nioxin believes a healthy scalp leads to healthy hair and with this it’s highly achievable. The best part of the treatment is how light your scalp feels after it’s done, as if it’s just had a facelift. It’s also great for the treatment of dandruff, psoriasis and dermatitis.

Joico 4-Step In-Salon Treatment

One of the most unique systems available with an 11-year track record of excellence, the treatment has four steps (duh), namely:
* chelating shampoo – to open cuticles and remove buildup
* cuticle sealer – to seal and equalise porosity
* deep penetrating reconstructive treatment – to repair textile strength
* intense hydrating treatment – to replenish hydration levels
This is the only treatment line optimised to reconstruct hair in the salon so chemical services can be performed as well as allowing your hair to be receptive to styling. Five thousand hair stylists have voted the Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructive Treatment as the number one treatment to use on clients. And after 11 years they can’t be wrong!

Rescue EMS (Biolustre) Treatment

Rescue Emergency Maintenance System products contain reconstructive treatments to strengthen damaged hair and increase elasticity. Rescue EMS penetrates into each strand to fortify weak, damaged hair and by treating the hair and scalp, it provides long-term repair and protection. Rescue EMS products work in synergy to rebuild, reconstruct, strengthen and protect damaged hair. It’s like having an extreme shot of protein injected into your hair to provide it with instant strength and health. If you’re looking for a quick fix with long lasting effects, this is for you.

So take you pick, but don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure you leave with what you’ve paid for!

This article gave birth to a week long search for Biolustre hair treatment. I have phoned half a hundred salon and emailed twice as many. The holding company is based in Canada, and I had to get a Canadian friend of mine to phone them to find out a few things:
    1. They currently do not have any agents in SA
    2. They are offering online purchase of the product, but will not ship to SA.
If anyone has any further information, please feel free to share, as I still believe that the product is the best on the marked, its just so damn difficult to get hold of it in SA.

This is an absolute great guideline!! A list of salons specialising in these treatments in the Western Cape would be grand.
