Wednesday, 15 June 2016

Summer may be ending, but new trends for nails never seem to! This autumn/winter 2016 season brings us some interesting new takes on beautiful manicures – most of which you can even try at home. Here’s our five top picks, to inspire you too come up with the most statement-making designs ever.

Bold in blue

This vibrant color has been seen everywhere recently – from coloured hair to glittering eye shadows, and now nails. Our favorite is the vibrant royal blue, a rich and vibrant colour that suits almost every skin tone. For sleek nails that complement the dramatic colour, opt for a short and natural squoval shape (the hybrid of squared and rounded nails).

Matte polish

Matte is back in a big way. We’re seeing more and more people choose this textured look over a traditional shine this season. Like a leather jacket for your nails, this is a simple way to make a bold statement; the best part is that any polish you want or already own can be easily transformed to this trendy finish with the magic of a good matte top coat. This can be rocked in almost any way – our favorites are dark tones like black on a shorter nail, for a simplistic yet edgy impact.

Neutral tones

Neutrals are making a huge reappearance in the nail scene lately. This previously limited palate has extended to muted colours of all kinds; green, grey, lavender and even blue. It can be extremely flattering, with the perfect tone for any skin type on offer. They work with your skin colour to highlight your natural undertones for a flawless effect. This trend is all about looking for and finding the dusty hue that compliments your skin tone the best, and can be rocked in any shape or texture. As the polar opposite of the classic bright red manicure, we love it for being youthful, polished and extremely versatile.

Coffin-shaped nails

The stiletto (or long and pointy) shaped nail has seen an important variation of late; the squared tip. This is where the name of this shape comes from, resembling the top of a coffin, or a ballerina’s pointe shoe. It’s the most stylish way to pull off a long nail at a time when shorter nails seem to be taking centre stage; it’s modern, sophisticated, and just long enough to give your fingers a beautiful silhouette.

Get the look: This shape is almost impossible to pull off naturally. Channel your inner vamp with a set of ProHesion Perfetto Nail Tips, and top with Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer in Making Wave (R123). Finish off with a matte-effect top coat of Morgan Taylor Mattes A Wrap (R156).

French with a twist

French manicures have kept their place as the classic go-to look for decades, highlighting the natural pigment of nails; white tips with a neutral pink overlay. This season has seen the most interesting variations on this muted manicure. The line at the top has been transformed into an endless array of shapes, colours, and textures. It utilises this simple format to create a unique contrast and interesting balance on the nail. We love it because it’s a perfect twist on an old classic, and the easiest way to incorporate the popular nail-art trend into your every-day look.

French tip with a twist gives your nails totally different dimension. I generally just have my nails done with a natural colour and white tip
