Heard about a Bellabaci massage?

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

The other day I was invited to enjoy a Bellabaci massage at the Suntra Spa at the 15 on Orange hotel in Gardens. Look how lovely the place is:

Gorgeous, right? I love the pretty beaded curtain around the jacuzzi bath.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Bellabaci cups, (you pronounce it Bella-ba-tjie) they’re essentially little silicone cups that are used to create a vaccum on your bod.

According to Patsy, my lovely therapist, the benefits of a cup massage are many. Think improved circulation, lymphatic drainage, toxin elimination, the breakdown of cellulite (wee!) and improved absorption of any essential oils or product that you use them with. (I actually happen to have a set at home and use them to help better the penetration of my cellulite cream and Bio-Oil…)

Thanks Patsy, you’ve got magic hands… and cups!

I arrived for my treatment with a slight dull headache which I get often as I have terrible ‘sitting posture’. I tend to hunch over my desk all day and clench my jaw when I type. Merrily, the massage definitely helped to ease away every last drop of tension in my body. So much so that I almost fell asleep on the table and didn’t have to reach for my beloved muscle relaxants later that evening.

I also like the fact that you get two different types of cups so you the pressure they exert on your body can be adjusted to your liking. I had a bit of a knot in my left shoulder and the harder pressure cup really helped to give it a good pummel. Also, if you leave a cup sitting on a certain spot, it can assist in releasing muscle spasm. Just be aware that if the cup is left in one spot for too long, it can result in a very light ‘hiccie-like’ bruise that disappears within two days. This happened in my case, but I was warned about it first and gave Patsy the go ahead to leave it on as long as she liked – I wasn’t going to be showing off any skin in this freezing cold Cape Town winter…

If you’re looking for a blissful, deep tissue massage that helps with lymph drainage, give Bellabaci a bash. A deliciously long 90 minutes Bellabaci massage at Suntra costs R620. They’re also having a special on their cups, which you can buy should you wish to use them at home; buy either the facial cups or the body cups (you get two in a set) for R350 per set. If you buy both, you’ll receive an Aromeopathy oil for free.

I love a deep tissue massage. We have been using cups for many years though we use them to bleed certain areas! One applies the cup and let’s it sit for a while then you remove it and make tiny scratches using a new sterilized blade( it doesn’t hurt at all ) and reapply the cup. The suction pulls the blood out and it has many proven healing benefits the one we use it for mainly is my husbands migraines. After this treatment he doesn’t suffer for 4 to 6 months!

In chinese traditional medicine, we do the cupping to release tensions, colds, knots, tightness imrove circulation and most important for me is the detoxing. Its been around for more than a thousand of years and we are firm believer of it theres more benefits to it, and it always better to do it religiously for it to work.
