How to: stop shine

How-to-stop-shine

No matter what your skin type, midday shine (particularly in summer) can affect anyone. If you’re prone to oily skin, however, you this is likely to be an everyday struggle. Although there isn’t a way to change your skin type or to stop shine completely, there are many things you can do to minimise it, and to make your skin less oily. Here, our top tips to get you on your way:

–      Use a cleanser containing 2% salicylic acid. This acne-fighting ingredient breaks down the oil in your pores without drying your skin.

–      If your moisturiser is creamy, switch over to a light lotion or a hydrating serum instead. If you over-moisturise or saturate your skin with rich moisturisers, oil production may increase.

–      Exfoliate once a week and apply a clay mask to absorb excess oils and mattify your complexion.

–      Apply a mattifying primer to help eliminate excess oil production and take control of your oily zones. We love black|Up Perfect Matifying Primer.

–      Wear a lightweight, non-oily and non-greasy sunscreen every day. It might make you feel slightly oilier than without, but trust us, sun damage is far worse! Plus, there are even sunscreens designed for acne-prone and oily skin, so there’s no excuse not to wear one!

–      Wear a BB cream or tinted moisturiser over your sunscreen as opposed to foundation. The lighter formula won’t clog your pores and will leave your skin feeling fresher and less “made up.”

–      Invest in some good quality blotting tissues. Designed to absorb excess oil and control shine, they can be used as often as necessary. Plus, unlike too many layers of oil-absorbing translucent powder, they won’t make the texture of your skin cakey.

  1. I use milk of magnesia as a primer underneath my foundation. It sounds strange but it has worked wonders for me especially in the summer. It looks scary at first because it dries white but the foundation covers that up.

  2. This topic was great to read and I am excited to try the routine. I have always had this shine look. I am ready to run with this.

  3. You can also use Garnier Oil control vanishing cream. You dont have to use pressed powder after this if you dont want to. It lasts the whole day and feel cucumbery refreshing on the skin.

  4. Urgh I need to go product shopping and get expert advice! 32 years old and still battling with breakouts!! It just ain’t right!
