Date night make-up tips

Date night makeup

At the start of a relationship, date nights are often more stressful than they are fun. After all, ensuring you make a good impression takes a lot of effort and can be emotionally draining. We’ve put together some tips on how to get the best beauty look on your date night – follow these simple steps to ensure you look your best without trying too hard!

1. Opt for a lightweight foundation or BB cream
You might be tempted to wear a lot of foundation to cover up imperfections, but when you’re dressing to impress, the less the foundation you wear, the better. After all, when asked what their make-up pet peeve is, most people (especially men) say thick foundation! Choose a lightweight formulation or opt for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream – it looks more natural.

2. Remember to conceal
Here’s where covering up comes in. If you have any blemishes / redness / pigmentation you want to conceal, rather cover it with concealer than extra foundation. This works wonders for under eye circles too.

3. Add a pop of peach or pink blusher
Blusher makes us look healthy and youthful, and a playful peach or pink shade is perfect for date night. Apply it to the apples of your cheeks for girly perfection.

4. Highlight and bronze
A bit of highlighter or bronzer on your collarbone and cheeks looks lovely and is great for an evening out. Be careful with the amount you use though – you want “shimmer,” not “disco ball.”

5. Lengthen those lashes
Mascara suits everyone, and the longer the lashes, the better. Try a lengthening formula to emphasize your lashes, or if they’re already quite long, opt for a volumising one instead. Long, flirty lashes are sure to keep his attention!

6. Keep lips bare
A fiery red lip looks beautiful, but isn’t the best choice for a date night. Firstly, it makes eating rather tricky, and secondly, you don’t want to leave lipstick marks on your date if you happen to get a goodnight kiss! We recommend applying a subtly coloured lip balm or lip crayon instead, as gloss also has repercussions when food and hair starts to stick to it!

7. Go for a simple hairstyle
It’s best to look as if you didn’t try too hard, and your hairstyle should reflect this too. Try a low maintenance hairstyle like a ponytail, a plait or just let it hang loosely. That way you don’t have to stress about bits and pieces falling out of place!

8. Be comfortable
These are guidelines, not rules – the best thing you can do when going on a date is to be comfortable. If bright orange lipstick makes you feel comfortable, then by all means, go for it. But bear in mind that he’s probably just as nervous as you are and the more approachable and natural your look, the easier it will be for him to get to know you.

Can you remember what make-up you wore on your first date, Beauties?

  1. Great article. I’ve noticed that women tend to wear heavier makeup in the evening but they don’t realise that all the soft and dimmed lighting is flattering enough and that the heavy makeup makes you look cheap and overdone.

  2. I think it is pretty awesome that we have a range of make up options available to us, so we are able to create different looks. I love all these recommendations.

  3. I think, if you can’t do red lips, then a smokey eye with loads of mascara is a great compromise for a sultry sexy look
