Our exclusive interview with the new face of Revlon

Friday, 16 October 2015

Revlon has announced that Alejandra Espinoza, TV host and Univision Network personality, has joined the company as Global Brand Ambassador. Known for her modelling career and hit music reality show, “La Banda,” this rising Latina star has appeared in many shows, and has become extremely popular on social media.

“Alejandra is a true Revlon woman who exemplifies confidence, beauty and love. We are excited to welcome her to our family, where she will help us deliver our LOVE IS ON message,” said Revlon CEO Lorenzo Delpani. “Alejandra is not only talented and beautiful, but her warmth and spirit make her an ideal embodiment of our mission – to inspire and spread LOVE.”

We couldn’t agree more!

Plus, we were lucky enough to get an exclusive telephone interview with Alejandra, all the way from New York! Here’s what she had to say:

Congratulations on being named the new representative for Revlon! How does it feel to be representing such a massively successful global company?
“Obviously it’s an honour for me, I can truly talk about the products because I use them. I feel hugely blessed to be a part of it. I remember telling my mom and she went crazy.”

You’ve worked in TV, as a model and taken part in beauty pageants, but where did your career start?
“Around seven years ago I was in a reality show and this gave me many opportunities. I took classes and eventually got my own show produced by Simon Cowell. I still take English and acting classes, I want to keep growing.”

Which part of your career do you find most fulfilling?
“I think everything – it’s been a wild ride, doing a lot of things. I am blessed and glad I’m doing great things for my family.”

As a child and teenager, did you know you wanted to be in show business when you grew up?
“Yes. I always wanted it but thought it wasn’t possible for me.”

Does show business run in your family, or were you the first to reach international stardom?
“No, I used to think it wasn’t possible for someone like me. I come from a humble family in Mexico and I have nine siblings. My family is very proud of me.”

Is it difficult to maintain a balance between your career, family and social life?
“For me it’s not that hard because I try to incorporate my family in everything I do. You have to find the perfect balance. My husband helps me a lot. I have an amazing management team too.”

What is one of the highlights of your career thus far?
“It has to be joining the Revlon family. I always wanted to be part of something like this.”

Partnering with Revlon obviously exposes you to the world of beauty – have you always loved beauty products?
“Yes! I got a red Revlon lipstick on my fifteenth birthday. I grew up using Revlon products.”

Do you keep your look simple during the day, or do you prefer a more polished, full make-up look?
“For day time, I always use mascara, foundation and blush. At night I like to dress up and use a lot of make-up, especially eyeshadow.”

What products do you keep in your handbag?
“Cream blush – I use it for everything, my cheeks, my eyelids and my lips. It’s my magic trick. I always have it with me.

What is the one Revlon product that you cannot live without?
“The Cream Blush in Pink – it’s amazing. I also love the Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – it stays on my eyelashes the whole day.” (The cream blush is unfortunately not available in SA, but we recommend you try the Revlon Powder Blush for beautiful colour and a warm glow).

What do you do to keep fit and healthy?
“I drink a lot of water, I jog and I always have my kid on my lap – that’s pretty good exercise!”

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
“Staying home in bed with my baby and my husband would be the perfect day off for me.”

What’s next in line for you – do you have any new projects coming up?
“I have my baby, TV show and Revlon… It’s been a great year for me and for now I’m just trying to keep up with it.”

I like that they went for someone who is still recognised and admired by the public, but someone who isn’t “Hollywood famous”.
