That’s the way MAC (t)rolls…

The ‘90s flashbacks just keep on coming. Just when you’ve gotten used to groups of grown-up’s wandering around aimlessly looking for Pokémon – get ready to be trolled – by MAC’s new range.

The limited-edition line, which is is devoted solely to the so-ugly-they’re-cute toys of your childhood, is finally available in selected Edgars stores and online in South Africa here.

Troll dolls were originally created in 1959 by a Danish fisherman and woodcutter, Thomas Dam, as a Christmas gift for his young daughter. But they’ve come along way since then. Later this year the zany-haired cuties will hit the big screen in Dreamworks’ upcoming movie about their mischievious adventures.

So in the true spirit of the toys, this is not a collection of conservative, traditionally pretty makeup. It’s a super fun range of playful, crazy colours – think lots of neon and pretty much glittery everything.

“The Good Luck Trolls have evoked love and joy since the 1960s. We are so happy we can put the spotlight on them again. MAC Cosmetics celebrates pop culture and fantasy – and brings these enchanting characters to life – through this eclectic, bright-hued collection,” MAC senior vice president/group creative director James Gager said in a statement.

The troll doll hair-inspired options include frosted hot pink, lime yellow and blue lipsticks, with names like “Pants Off” and “Midnight Troll.” For lipglass you can choose between “Twerkquoise” and “Glitter Grunge”, or eye shadows in bright pink, white, mustard yellow, and cobalt blue shades, along with plenty of glitter options.

The packaging itself is not MAC’s typically sleek, minimalist style. All the products are encased in bold, candy-coloured casing, so there’s no hiding these under the bridge in your make-up bag.

The collection also includes brushes, and all the products are priced between R230 to R620.
