Our favourite starlets have headed to the French Riviera for an 11-day extravaganza of beauty and unforgettable gowns at the 70th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
The glamourous event started on the 17th of May, and true to form, celeb-spottings were rife and the red carpet was graced by many a starlet donning a glam number and perfect make-up.
Bella Hadid has been a clear favourite, strutting her stuff in envy-worthy beauty looks (and gowns) at every event. From effortless up do’s and bold eyes, to a bronzed cheekbones and a cropped bob. The leggy model is claiming her style icon status, and we’re here for it. We especially loved her #DiorMakeup (pictured above) that included a devilishly fierce graphic cat eye, red eye make-up, dewy glow and sleek pony. Bella took to Instagram saying, “Dior day❤️Dior Makeup… I am always so honoured to walk the Film Festival carpet”. We’re honoured to witness all the glam she’s serving, and we’re taking notes.
Because we didn’t quite score an invitation, we checked Instagram for the highlights of the event. Here are some of our favourite looks and make-up inspiration that you should totally try out for your next glam event.
Deepika Padukone proved she’s not afraid to experiment with colour and definitely caught our attention with her emerald eye make-up. The eyeshadow matched her gown perfectly and allowed her to keep it simple with a natural lip and sleek updo.
Shine bright with some bronzer
Rihanna was all about the bronze make-up and classic allure of a red lip and matching red nails. She also kept her hair #lewks simple and looked chic throughout. Many celebs embraced the bronzed look while attending events all around the South of France.
Forget about the rules and statement eyes vs statement lips debate. Cara Delevingne flaunted her edgy shaven hair and full brows with a generous dusting of eye make-up and a plum lip at the Magnum party. The beauty is fronting the new Magnum X Moschino campaign and served some serious glamour. Make-up is all about accentuating your features and Cara did just that. Also, full brows are here to stay.
Purple lips, anyone? Bollywood beauty, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan flaunted some purple lipstick and it might just be exactly what you need to steal the show at your next event. Would you try it?
Unicorn make-up has been very popular and when executed correctly, it could easily be a perfectly glamorous and chic look, while being fun and playful. She also donned a smoky eye and liquid liner, which was very popular on the runway. Don’t give up on the art of perfecting it just yet.
Low maintenance hair
An oxymoron in terms, because hair is often anything but low maintenance. Luckily celebs are feeling our struggle too – even though they have stylists that follow them around wherever they go.
Case in point, Kendall Jenner. What is a red carpet or runway without Kendall? The model and reality star looked perfectly put-together at all her event appearances. From choppy bobs and peachy glows, to light strobing and nude lips. We especially love Kendall’s effortless bun, perfect for when you just can’t wash your hair but you need to head out to a lavish film festival quickly – or something like that.
Pretty in pink
In a world full of nudes and dark eye make-up, don’t be afraid to go pink. Sunset eyes have been very popular and it’s easy to see why. The combination of pink and bronze eye make-up was perfectly executed by Sonam Kapoor, with a messy bun that was no doubt perfectly styled but much appreciated by us regular folk.
It’s a style that can be easily created and many celebs seem to be giving it a go on red carpets. Add a bronzed glow, bold brows and some good old pink blush and glossy lips for added star power. Don’t be afraid to rock your biggest pair of statement earrings if you give this look a go. Accessories are all about more is more this season, it seems.
Just do you
If all fails and you’ve all but tried every look, draw some inspiration from Rihanna. No stranger to stealing the show, Ri inspired us to experiment with make-up and have fun!
Granted not many people could pull off 90’s-inspired sunglasses on the red carpet, but RiRi has just the right amount of sass. She’s set to be honoured by the Parsons School of Design, so she might have more fashion leeway, but you get the picture.
