I have long dark brown-black hair, which makes it very hard for colour to take on. Trying out L’oréal Wild Ombré Préférence was a risk, as my hair is just simply too stubborn. The box of dye consists of an expert brush, lightening powder, developer crème, lightening crème, conditioning shampoo and colourist gloves. Making use of the useful User guide that comes along in the box of dye assisted me in getting a very pleased outcome.

The user guide includes a step-by-step process as to what I needed to do. Having extremely long hair was a challenge however applying the dye with the expert brush to my hair was very simple and easy. It had a very subtle odour compared to other dyes making it easier for me to apply without feeling drowsy. Leaving it on for +-45 minutes resulted in a very natural looking Ombré (which was the look I was going for). After colouring my hair I washed and conditioned it with the conditioning shampoo and surprisingly it gave my dull looking hair a nice shine and brought out the Ombré even more.

  1. As soon as I heard about this I went to buy it. The presentation of the packaging is so perfect but after trying it I was so disappointed. The colour was so uneven, it left my hair feeling extremely dry and my hair wasn’t even the colour on the box.

  2. I found the color came out uneven and didn’t take well on my hair. I have very long, thick and curly hair and there just didn’t seem to be enough dye to complete the process. Disappointed with the results, I simply went and bought my usual hair color and dyed over it a week later.

  3. Hi Roxanne,

The L’oréal Paris Préférence Wild Ombrés is available from selected retailers nationwide. We suggest calling your nearest Clicks or Dischem to see if they have it in stock.

  4. I totally love this product! Best thing that’s hit the hair market in a long time :)

  5. I was so excited to use this product, because I wanted ombre hair for a while but hate going to the salon.

The packaging looked great, I loved the design of the leaflet, it felt very luxurious using it. It was easy to apply and idiot proof, although I would’ve liked more tips and instructions on the leaflet.

The gloves were good quality and the aplicator brush that’s included came in handy and worked really well.

The smell was unbearable at times and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The product burned my skin on my neck when my hair was against it.

I have quite dark hair (dyed) so I left the product on for the maximum amount of time and went to go rinse and wash it with the shampoo that was included. The shampoo dried my hair out a lot ( even at the roots where no bleach was applied). My hair did not come out as light as what I hoped (reddish brown) which was disappointing. so I decided to do a second application after a month of letting my hair rest.

On the second application my hair is a auburn color, which to me is fine because I like red hair and it suits my complexion, but for those who want the blond shown on the box, it wouldn’t be acceptable.

I was definitely impressed by the way it blends and fades from light to dark. I was worried that it would be to sudden of a transition, but it turned out great.

Those individuals with natural ( un colored hair) might have a better experience with this product.

But I would not recommend this to those who have dark or coloured hair.
