Max Factor Colour Intensifying Balm

20 Luscious Red

Looking for a super moisturising lip balm with a luscious splash of colour? Look no further because Max Factor’s new Colour Intensifying Balm is the perfect lip balm to keep lips pout perfect this Summer. I received the Colour Intensifying Balm in the shade “20 Luscious Red” which gives my lips a flush of red with a whole lot of moisture. The Colour Intensifying Balm comes in a small packaging, but don’t let its packaging fool you, because “dynamite comes in small packages”, and this lip balm packs a powerful punch! The Colour Intensifying Balm glides on effortlessly onto lips, leaving lips with a sweet fruity scent (I got a bit of a sweet scent), the balm is also tasteless, so there’s no weird taste. I really like intense colours, so this balm is perfect, because the colour is layerable, which means you can control the amount of colour you want. I think this balm could definitely replace a light lipgloss, because it has the perfect amount of colour, gives lips a gorgeous glossy shine plus it isn’t sticky or uncomfortable. I find the pricing a little steep, but I would repurchase as a beauty splurge. Thank you Beauty South Africa for giving me an opportunity to review this product.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

Baby Skin

When I say “Baby Skin”, you may never understand my excitement when I found out this “much raved’ about primer was hitting South African shores. In fact, I stalked my local Foschini until they had received stock, and then bought the first two primers I could get my hands on. Like any other blogger, I rushed home, admired the packaging for a few good minutes, and then went straight to testing out the primer.

I’m going to start off my review by talking about the packaging, because who doesn’t love a product with a pretty cool packaging? I loved the teal and turquoise packaging with the hot pink writing, it catches my attention as soon as I glance at the product. The packaging is quite sturdy, and I especially love the screw on cap, so there is no spillage if you’re travelling around. I do believe that overseas, the Baby Skin tube is packaged in a cardboard and plastic packaging, I would have really appreciated that in South Africa, so I know the product I’ve purchased hasn’t been tampered with in stores.

The Baby Skin tube labels this primer as an “instant pore eraser”, the tube also states that baby skin is a lightweight primer, for smooth, poreless looking skin and that the primer is only for adults. I was a little surprised, because this primer didn’t really state whether it was for any specific skin type, plus there isn’t much information available on the packaging about the product, but since everybody raved about this product, I really wanted to try it out.

After testing out the product on my hand, I was amazed, this primer felt velvety soft and smooth on the back of my hand, which made me even more excited to try it out. The first day I tried out the primer, I wore it with a full face of make up, I applied a pea sized about of primer to my moisturised face, and gave it a few minutes to settle in and then applied my make up, my make up applied like a dream, it looked flawless in the pictures, which got me really excited because I thought I found my Holy Grail primer, until a few hours after applying my skin looked really oily, like past trying to save with translucent powder oily. YIKES!

I tired to remain as calm as possible and be positive, maybe it was just too much make up for my primer to handle (said no woman ever), I tried it a few days later with just regular BB cream and some powder, but nope, still looking like I left the house with oil on my face. I was beginning to get disappointed because maybe this primer just wasn’t cut out for me. I have oily skin, well combination skin to be exact, and this primer made my skin look plain down too oily to deal with.

Don’t get me wrong, this primer is a really powerful primer, it leaves skin feeling soft and smooth, with a well moisturised feeling, it also blurrs imperfections on skin, making skin appear flawless and “smooth – looking”, plus it is a perfect canvas for make up, as make up glides on, but it is really NOT cut out for oily skin, I really tried to work around the primer, but I couldn’t. It just isn’t meant for combination/oily skin.

So would I recommend Maybelline Baby Skin? Yes I would, ONLY if you have dry skin, if you have combination or oily skin, I really wouldn’t recommend this primer because you’ll just be left with more of an oily look than you can really handle. The Maybelline Baby Skin retails for R89 and is available at Foschini, Dis-Chem and Clicks.

Batiste Brunette

Batiste Dry Shampoo Brunette

So I’m going to be as honest as I possibly can and say that my hair to me, is basically my everything and by everything, I mean I have the biggest collection of hair products you can ever imagine. As much as I love shiny, soft and silky hair everyday, it is unfortunate that Indian hair gets oily/greasy very quickly, leaving me with two solutions, either wash my hair everyday or turn to my holy grail Batiste Dry Shampoo – dark & deep brown.

It gets really hectic on week days as I leave home at 6am for work, and yes, I am never ready by 6am, no matter what time I get up, but ever since I’ve gotten my hands on Batiste Dry Shampoo, the days just get better, I’m always looking around in Clicks for a can of this HG dry shampoo because I finish a can in three months.

Batiste’s description about their Dry Shampoo: Batiste Dry Shampoo for dark and deep brown hair is perfect to use in between washes. A quick burst refreshes an revitalises hair and removes any excess oil. Hair feels gorgeously clean and fresh with added body and texture. The hint of colour compliments darker shades and helps blend in root re-growth on coloured hair.

Directions: 1,. Shake can vigorously. 2. Keeping nozzle about 30cm away from hair, spray into roots. 3. Massage through with fingertips. 4. Brush and style as normal.

My final thoughts: This is an absolute life changer for me, especially when you’re having those completely rushed days. I’d really recommend you buy a can, as it really comes in handy on those bad hair days and traveling days, plus every girl needs a little volume to keep her hair looking fabulous.

theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer

the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer

After a long, long, long wait, The Balm Cosmetics have finally hit the South African shores, which brought complete and total happiness into my life, as I’ve been lusting after some of their gorgeous products for years and one of those products happen to be the Mary – Lou Manizer, which I am sure isn’t a surprise to any of my reader, because every single girl is lusting after the “perfect highlighter”.

I purchased the Mary – Lou Manizer from Retail Box for R399, which may seem like a steep price for a highlighter, but I promise, it is definitely worth every cent! This multi tasking product can be used as: a highlighter, to add shimmer and as an eye shadow.
Retail Box’s review of the Mary – Lou Maniser: “Meet Mary-Lou Manizer, a seemingly innocent honey-hued luminizer that catches everybody’s eye. This highlighter, shadow and shimmer diffuses light so your skin looks softer and younger while adding a subtle glow. ”

My thoughts: Firstly, look at that packaging!!! It has to be the most gorgeous vintage looking packaging ever, from the box to the actual compact! It has a simple yet classy look to it, which I really appreciate, because it will definitely catch eyes when you whip this compact out of your bag.
The actual compact is quite sturdy and gives me a good feeling, as if my Mary – Lou Manizer will see me many good years, plus the compact includes a lovely mirror, which will make sure you see perfectly highlighted cheekbones every time. Excuse my pun, but ever since I’ve gotten the Mary – Lou Manizer, it has really been the highlight of my life! I’ve been playing around with it, since the day my package got delivered.

I find the Mary – Lou Manizer to be soft and buttery, feeling like it will melt into skin apon application, which is exactly what it does, no cakey feeling, no flaking, just gorgeously glowing skin every time. I find the Mary – Lou Manizer to be a little too shimmery for my everyday make up as it really highlights on my olive skin tone.
When I apply my highlighter, I use a soft angled brush to make sure I get a perfect application, I also apply my highlighter with a light hand, as this is a very pigmented highlighter. I do love the summer glow this highlighter gives me, making my skin look radiant and sculptured, a definite must have, to make sure your make up will always be on point.

My Final Thoughts: I’ve you’re willing to splurge out for this Mary – Lou Manizer highlighter, I say “why not?”, this impressive highlighter is a multi-tasker, and completely life changing, plus this highlighter will see you a couple of good years, mainly because the highlighter is so pigmented, you need very little to complete your look.

Rimmel Oh My Gloss! Lip Gloss

520 Rebel Red

I’ve been watching the Rimmel stand recently at my local Clicks store, to see what new make-up spoils come out and I’ve spotted the Rimmel Oh My Gloss range a few weeks back, but I delayed rushing and purchasing because I wanted to do my research first. The minute I read the word Argan oil, having the Rimmel Oh My Gloss changed from a want to a NEED. I’ve been having a crazy love affair with the Rimmel Wonderfull Argan Oil Mascara, which already hit my expectations for the Oh My Gloss sky high!

My word, this lip gloss is apparently a MUST in my make-up bag, because ever since I’ve purchased the gloss, we’ve been inseparable. I purchased my Rimmel Oh My Gloss in a deep red shade – 520 Rebel Red which is a lovely deep red colour, with a little bit of shimmer, because a little sparkle never killed anybody. I’ve been going matte over the past year, so I accepted a change and this glossy wonder with open arms.

I really like this lip gloss, wait.. I LOVE THIS LIP GLOSS, it has a light feeling on lips, no sticky feeling and I don’t find the gloss transferring quickly or vanishing. I’d say the gloss gives lips a sheer wash of colour, which isn’t too vibrant, but enough colour to say “hello I am a lip gloss” which I like, especially on those days when all you’re feeling is some BB Cream and a little gloss to take over the world.

This lip gloss contains vitamin E and argan oil, which makes the gloss very moisturising, once you’ve applied the lip gloss, you will notice how moisturising it actually is, lips feel soft and well hydrated. Rimmel London SA claim “Your lips will be shouting in glorious technicolour with Rimmel’s new Oh My Gloss!”

Expect nothing but amazing with this lip gloss, from the perfect shine, every lasting tint on lips, keeping lips soft and well hydrated and the perfect applicator, to make sure every day is a well glossed day! Plus this gorgeous gloss comes in 17 mesmerizing colours, to give you the perfect pout everytime. The Rimmel Oh My Gloss retails for R79,99 and is available at Clicks, Dis – Chem, Foschini and Edgars.

Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water

Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water

Micellar Cleansing Water? Cleansing water? If you’ve never heard of the latest make up removal which has hit South Africa, carry on reading because Garnier South Africa has brought two different types of Micellar Cleansing Waters to South Africa to help us with easy make up removal and perfect skin cleansing in a flash. Let me introduce you to the latest in skincare on a budget… the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water which is safe enough for sensitive skin and Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water which is perfect for oily skin.

So lets get down to basics… what is Micellar Cleansing Water? According to Elle Online “Micellar Cleansing Water formula is made of micelles, which are tiny oil molecules which are suspended in a soft water, the micelles are attracted to dirt, grime and oil, and they draw out impurities without drying out your skin.” The idea behind the Micellar Cleansing Water is “rather than containing a foamy solution which strips your skin and leaves behind harsh chemicals, micelles cling onto the dirt and make up on your skin and dissolve them while leaving behind a glowy, hydrated finish.”

To me, I unfortunately had mixed feelings about this “cleanser’ because it seems like a lazy girl’s solution to make up removing. Despite the fact that I could wake up the next morning with skin that was broken out like crazy, I accepted the challenge and tested out the product over a week. On the first day, I removed my day time make up using the Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water, I wet a cotton pad in the Micellar Cleansing Water and begun wiping my face. I watched my make up melt off my skin, so calmly… three cotton pads down and my skin felt amazing.

My skin looked refreshed and so hydrated, it felt soft to the touch, but I wasn’t convinced just yet, I spent the rest of the week testing out the Micellar water. By the time I had completed my week of testing out the product, I’ll agree with Garnier’s statement “perfectly cleansed and refreshed skin without vigorous rubbing or rinsing. A soothing formula without perfume to suit all skin types.” I was impressed, the product has a light gentle scent which makes you think of perfectly cleansed skin with a touch of that “fresh feel”, my make up was removed perfectly, including my waterproof make up without the panda eyes.

Although, my two favourite things about the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is definitely that it is perfect for sensitive eyes and skin, so there is no burning, irritating or uncomfortable skin after using the cleansing water, plus it comes in a 400ml bottle, which I find to be a HUGE saving because it is an “all rounder” cleanser for a fraction of the cost. The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water has quickly become an everyday cleanser in my cleansing routine, sometimes if I’m having a make up free day, I use the Micellar Cleansing Water to refresh my skin and give it some “life”. I’d recommend you get your hands on the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water as soon as possible, it’s a life changing product, you won’t really understand the hype until you’ve tried the product. The Micellar Cleansing Water retails at R79,99 and is available at selected Clicks Stores
