Is my night cream rubbing off on my pillow a night?

Saturday, 31 October 2015

I apply my skincare products right before I go to bed at night. Is it possible for my moisturiser to smear off onto my pillow, or does it usually penetrate the skin very quickly? And if so, how often should I be changing my pillowcase?

Skincare expert Dr Maureen Allem from Skin & Body Renewal responds:

“If you’re using a moisturiser that leaves an occlusive layer, and you apply a liberal amount of it, then it’s absolutely possible for your product to smear onto your pillow. It really depends on what you are using. How often you change your pillow case is really a case of personal preference. I would say at least weekly. But if you sweat a lot while you sleep, and you can see or feel your moisturiser sitting on your pillow, then you may want to do this more regularly.”

I apply my serum first, wait 5 minutes before I follow with a night cream but I also sleep on silk pillowcases that I replace at least once a week. And I also wait another 10 minutes before jumping into bed. Haven’t had any issues.

My night is cream is not oily or heavy and absorbs into my skin quite quickly. I have never noticed it rubbing off on my pillow.

I out mine on quite early, around 7, so it can absorb :)

I try to let the cream absorb a bit before going to bed.

I find that most creams or ointments that are applied to the face always end up smearing off onto the pillows that’s why bedding has to get changed often!
