Our top five spas and treatments

Monday, 19 August 2013

BeautySouthAfrica compiled a list of their five favourite spas that they think are worthy of a visit. Whether alone or with a partner, indulge yourself with these treatments on offer.
The Oyster Box
Spa: The Oyster Box
Location: Durban
Treatment: Absolute Beachfront Hot Lava Shell Massage (60 Min)
Cost: R750
“A complete massage journey using hands, arms and elbows, incorporating the self-heating technology of the Tiger Shell to allow a deeper penetrating massage to the core of the muscle. The shells heat up and give off calcium ions when activated by natural ingredients. This renews and firms the skins, giving it a healthy glow.”

Life Day Spa

Spa: Life Day Spa
Location: Fourways
Treatment: Rasul Mud Chamber (30 Min)
Cost: R310
“Based on the traditional Turkish bath, this exfoliating and cleansing ritual uses pure natural medicinal earth mud to cleanse and detoxify the body and combines herb-infused steam to open pores and draw out impurities. To complete the ceremony, a tropical rain shower will wash away the mud providing an all over cleansing, detoxifying and rejuvenating experience. This ceremony can be enjoyed as a group or with a partner. The Rasul Chamber can accommodate up to five people at a time.”

Cayenne Spa

Spa: Cayenne Spa
Location: Cape Town
Treatment: Male Indulgence
Cost: R826
Who said the spa is only for the ladies? Calling all men – treat yourself to a bit of male indulgence at the spa in the Pepper Club Hotel. What could be better than a 75-minute deep tissue massage, scalp massage, Dermalogica facial and a men’s’ pedicure?

Twelve Apostles
Spa: Twelve Apostles
Location: Cape Town
Treatment: Himalayan Salt Stone Massage (60 Min)
Cost: R850
“Himalayan salt stones containing trace elements and essential minerals, are ideal substances to enhance health and optimise body functioning. The treatment includes a Back Massage and Foot Massage. Basalt mineral rocks can be supplemented, if preferred.”

Spa: The Saxon
Location: Johannesburg
Treatment: Tibetan Sound Therapy (60 Min)
Cost: R790

“The Signature Sound Therapy is unique to the Saxon Spa and Studio and takes you on a spiritual journey using sound to soothe your senses. Gongs, cymbals, Tibetan singing bowls and bells are used through the vibration of sounds to balance and restore the body’s natural energy centres. The treatment is performed on a heated water bed with colour therapy to enhance the effectiveness and rebalance the flow of your energy.”

A former colleague of mine has a ritual with her hubby which I think we should all adopt: Instead of spending your money on trendy clothes and take aways – put it towards one monthly spa treatment of your choice. So she goes for a full body massage with her hubby on the last Saturday of each month. It’s so smart.
