What’s new in beauty: August budget edition

Feeling the pinch? Don’t let that put you off a good skincare and makeup routine. This August we uncovered the latest releases, budget style!

What’s new in beauty: August budget edition 1

Skin Republic Prime + Refine 3 Minute Primer Face Mask Sheet (R52.00 at Dis-Chem and Takealot)
Flawlessly primed skin in only three minutes? This primer sheet mask is totally changing the way we do makeup. It contains hydra-blur technology to blur the appearance of pores and imperfections, while hydrating and smoothing the skin, prepping it for foundation application. Our editor tested it before a night out and reported a much-needed glow, and said it makes foundation glide on effortlessly.

Bramley Magnolia Tissue Oil (R36.99 at PEP)
So strictly speaking this isn’t a new product – we’ve used and loved Bramley’s Magnolia Tissue Oil for a long time. However, it now has a new look and is available in a brand new 200ml value pack. At R36.99 it’s such a steal: not only does it hydrate and soften the skin, but it has a multitude of other functions, such as massage oil, shaving balm, hair conditioner and lip balm. Plus it has a beautiful floral fragrance too.

OXY Charcoal 3-In-1 (R64.95 at leading retailers)
Oh how we love a good multitasker. Ideal for those with oily or blemish-prone skin, this 3-in-1 cleanser, scrub and mask is filled with activated charcoal, which is known to draw bacteria, dirt and impurities to the surface of the skin. It also unclogs pores and detoxifies the skin, leaving it clearer and healthier. We’ve been big OXY fans since high school days, and this latest product on offer certainly doesn’t disappoint.

African Extracts Sensitive Mild Cleansing Facial Wipes (R39.99 at Clicks and Dis-Chem)
African Extracts have upped their game with a new range of affordable facial wipes. Designed for blemish-prone, dehydrated, sensitive and normal skins, these wipes won’t leave your skin tight or feeling uncomfortable. The key ingredient is Bio-Active Rooibos extract which is packed with antioxidants and minerals. We tested out the Sensitive Wipes and found them soft, soothing and highly effective in removing makeup and dirt. Plus, they’re vegan-friendly, alcohol and paraben-free and endorsed by Beauty Without Cruelty!

LetiBalm Nose And Lips Repair Fluid (R76.00 at Dis-Chem)
Where would we have been this winter without LetiBalm?! Everyone’s favourite winter product is back with a new look. The best nose and lip saviour we’ve come across, LetiBalm soothes, moisturises and repairs chapped, cracked, red and painful skin around the nose, mouth and lips. It creates a protective layer on the skin to prevent further chapping and minimises sensitivity unlike any other product we’ve used. This is a must-have in every household.

Palladio 4Ever+Ever Long Lasting Dewy Finish Makeup Setting Spray (R165.00 at Dis-Chem)
Getting selfie-ready is easy with Palladio’s range of four 4Ever+Ever Primers and Setting Sprays. Each one addresses a different skin concern; from blemishes, to shine, to dehydration. We tried out the Dewy Finish Makeup Setting Spray, which is formulated with nourishing green tea and aloe. This ultra-fine mist doesn’t disturb your makeup, but gives the skin an enviable glow and dewy finish. It has a refreshing scent that leaves the skin feeling invigorated, making it the perfect lunch-time pick-me-up.

L.A. Girl Metal Liquid Lipstick (R95.00 at Dis-Chem)
The metal makeup look was a major trend this winter, and we’re seeing it heading into spring as well. Available in 18 tones from nudes to jewels, these trendy liquid lipsticks by L.A. Girl offer a rich metallic finish. The texture is creamy and non-drying, so the colour feels easy and comfortable on the lips. Added argan oil and vitamin E ensure lips get the moisture and care they need. We found they were surprisingly long-lasting and the colour is super saturated so you can really make a statement.

Jeanne Arthes Ambre Pamplemousse Rose Cologne de Luxe (R295.00 for 100ml at Dis-Chem)
When it comes to pocket-friendly scents, you don’t find much better than Jeanne Arthes. Extremely affordable yet beautifully crafted, this latest release consists of captivating vanilla tones, amber, lemon, grapefruit and blonde woods. It’s a perfect synergy of fruits, florals and woods and has a raw earthiness that’s appealing to both men and women. Wear it now to make the most of its warmth during the next few weeks of winter.

  1. Yes, the Magnolia tissue oil does work for my skin and most of my fiends, for me it works best now that am combining it with the Eucerin PhotoAging Control Sun lotion, my facial skin is getting firmer:-)
