Four Sexiest Scents for Guys

Four sexy fragrances for guys

Classic Sex Appeal: Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male EDT, R595 for 75ml

In SA this has been a firm favourite for almost 20 years (it was launched on our shores in 1995) and the reason men love it must be because of the scent contrasts. Fresh, yet spicy and warm, it’s sexy yet distinctive – this is not just another scent. Think mint, lavender and bergamot in the top notes (all fresh and oh so clean smelling); and cinnamon, cumin and sweet orange blossom in the heart give this fragrance its spice. And the base is pure warmth: vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood and cedarwood. Who’s this best suited for? The under-the-radar playboy: he’s sophisticated, big-hearted and sexy without being too showy. A great classic for the one you love!

Modern Sophistication: Chanel Bleu de Chanel EDT, R940 for 100ml

The ad campaign alone is enough to swoon over. At the time of its launch, Chanel showcased a TV spot by filmmaker Martin Scorsese starring French actor Gaspard Ulliel. Shot against a moody backdrop of New York City this sexy young actor made our knees weak. But what about the fragrance, you ask? It’s rather good too. At its heart is the smell of cedar (it’s typically an elegant and warm scent) but because there’s a good burst of citrus, peppermint, pink pepper and nutmeg, the scent is fresh and modern. In its base are scents such as patchouli and frankincense giving it a sophisticated aromatic feel. Buy this if your man needs a fragrance update for work and play.

Mr. Loverman: Gucci Guilty Pour Homme EDT, R740 for 90ml

The men’s counterpart to the seductive female fragrance, Gucci Guilty Pour Homme is just as sexy and delicious. It’s a bit of an alpha male fragrance but it’s so heady and hot that one can forgive a little showmanship. You’ll smell zesty and traditional top notes like lemon and lavender and then get to addictive orange blossom in the heart of the scent. The base notes are warm, woody fragrances such as patchouli and cedar. We’re also mad for the bottle: sleek and very stylish: think a combo of cold metal and heavy glass giving it a luxe look. Treat him to this if he knows a thing or two about style and manly sex appeal.

Traditional masculinity: Dior Eau Savage Extreme EDT Intense, R655 for 50ml

The original Eau Savage was launched in the 60s and described by fragrance author Luca Turin (his book with fellow scent expert Tania Sanchez, Perfumes, The Guide is well worth a read) as, ‘a masterpiece’. The extreme version was launched years later but it’s as wearable today as it was in the 80s. A citrus aromatic, it has interesting scent ingredients such as basil, rosemary, coriander and bay leaf. The base notes are quite traditional though and enhance its masculine appeal: think musk, oakmoss and cedar for instance. Hint: this is one you’re really going to enjoy too, so think of it as a gift to yourself as well.

  1. Mmmm nice, but no – still prefer my man to wear Paco Rabanne Ultravoilet Man (makes me want to nibble him, LOL)!
