Stella McCartney launched her first fragrance, STELLA, in 2003. As with ready-to-wear, her approach to fragrance plays with contrasts and contradictions, fusing femininity with sharpness, vintage with modern, extrovert with delicate. The inspiration is visual, deriving from a simple yet sensual moment in time such as a rose in decadent full bloom just before it begins to wilt.
The faceted fragrance flacon, framing a seemingly infinite plum degrade is reminiscent of an amethyst crystal and was designed by McCartney herself. The scent is based around notes of rose – a much-loved scent from the designer’s childhood – complemented by a gentle touch of sparkling mandarin essence and a base of woody amber. “I wanted something very traditional,” commented McCartney.
