It’s time to give your heavier, spicier fragrances a rest and turn to fresher, sparkly fruity and floral scents for spring.
Here are six fragrances approved by our editor (and sure to get you in the mood for Spring 2023!):

Editor’s take: “If you’re a jasmine fan, this is the scent for you. I love how it changes from being very floral when first applied to more woody as it dries down. It reminds me of the scent of jasmine on warm summer evenings, but with a seductive twist.”
MCM Ultra Eau de Parfum (R1699.00 for 50ml)
Ultra EDP was inspired by German luxury fashion house MCM’s iconic backpack. Housed in an eye-catching and opulent Berlin-gold bottle, Ultra features a bold scent profile. It opens with a burst of juicy blackcurrant, pink lady apples and Italian bergamot combined with the spicy-sweet rush of pink pepper. Tuberose and jasmine add a creamy, youthful floral aroma while cedarwood, tonka and mossfuse create an ultra-modern signature, layered with addictive golden amber.
Editor’s take: “This had got to be one of the prettiest perfume bottles I’ve seen! Just like the packaging suggests, the scent is rich, opulent and luxurious. It’s the kind of fragrance I would wear when going out for a meal or to an event. The winning combination of fruit, florals, wood and amber lingers on the skin for hours and is as modern as it is sophisticated.”
Lush Vanillary Perfume (from R340.00 for 30ml)
Comforting and decadent, Vanillary is a gourmand fragrance made with natural vanilla absolute and includes a touch of floral jasmine mixed with a note of comforting burnt caramel. With hints of sweet tonka bean, Vanillary warms and develops on the skin to create an intoxicating aroma.
Editor’s take: “I love the scent of vanilla and find this fragrance comforting and warm. You can get away with wearing it all year round but I’m definitely taking it into spring with me – it has just the right balance of floral and sweet notes.”
Zadig & Voltaire This Is Us! Eau de Toilette (R1640.00 for 100ml)
This eau de toilette is designed for everyone – it’s a scent that unites men and women and inspires a community of love and freedom. The fragrance is striking, opening with lasting vanilla, featuring vibrant cashmere at the heart and sandalwood and patchouli at the base.
Editor’s take: “This scent screams happiness – it is impossible to smell it without a smile on your face. Amber-y and woody, it features vanilla as the star of the show, but is beautifully balanced with warm woody and creamy notes. I love that it’s unisex and that it promotes such a beautiful message of unity, love and freedom of expression. I totally resonate with this scent and can see it being my day-to-day fragrance as soon as it gets a little warmer outside.”
Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum (R1449.00 for 60ml)
This fragrance is powerful and delicate at the same time. Sweet, luxurious and glamorous, it opens with a floral combination of black plum, litchee and grapefruit. Heliotrope dominates the heart of the perfume, and the base consists of benzoin, tonka bean and sandalwood.
Editor’s take: “While this might not be a quintessential spring scent, I find myself reaching for it more and more as the weather warms up. It’s one of my favourite date night fragrances but I wear it equally comfortably during the day time. I love how it is simultaneously sweet and sultry and that it lasts on my skin for hours. It’s a classic and will probably be on my favourites list for years to come.”
