Looking for a great movie to watch this weekend? Then you’re in luck – A Quiet Place: Day One opens in cinemas tomorrow, 28 June 2024!
What can you expect from the film?
New York City is under siege by a deadly, unknown enemy that hunts by sound and kills ruthlessly. The third chapter and prequel to the wildly popular franchise leaves the rural home of the Abbott family to tell the story of the day meteorites fell from the sky and humans were snatched away by vicious creatures, never to be seen again.
When Samira (Lupita Nyong’o) returns to the city of her birth, all she wants is a slice from her favourite pizzeria. Instead, she finds herself trapped in a brutal waking nightmare that could be her last day on Earth. Accompanied by a virtual stranger named Eric (Joseph Quinn) and her cat Frodo, she embarks on a perilous journey past burning buildings, flooded subways, and smashed cars in a newly silent world where danger lurks everywhere.
Directed and screenplay by Michael Sarnoski, A Quiet Place: Day One is a taut horror thriller with big screen action that honours the legacy of the blockbuster franchise and shows audiences what happened on the day the world went quiet.

Our editor attended the pre-screening – here’s what she thought of the film:
“If you enjoyed A Quiet Place I and II, then you absolutely have to go and see A Quiet Place: Day One. The film gives us context as to what happened on the day the world changed, and acts as a prequel to the other two films. We’re introduced to two new characters, brilliantly portrayed by Lupita Nyong’o (Sam) and Joseph Quinn (Eric), as well as Sam’s pet cat. The film is a real rush – it offers fast-paced action scenes in stark contrast to the eerily quiet moments when the characters remain in silence, trying to remain out of harm’s way. In between the chaos, it serves up such wholesome, beautiful scenes filled with acts of kindness and emotion. The fate of the characters was unpredictable and had me guessing until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an action-packed plot.” – Anien, Editor
