Achieve autumn’s hottest makeup trends with Sorbet Makeup 1

Summer 2021-2022 makeup was all about natural skin with a sun-kissed glow, colourful eyeliner and Euphoria-esque, maximalist eye makeup. With autumn around the corner, it’s time to steer your makeup in a new direction.

If you think autumn makeup is all about beige eyeshadows and nude lips, think again! We’re excited to see some unexpected makeup trends emerge this season, and for vibrant jewel tones to make a comeback. The “no makeup” foundation look is here to stay, but you can expect to swap your sun-kissed glow and ethereal makeup looks for heavy metals, bold lips and fluffy brows.

This autumn, we’re turning to Sorbet Makeup for high quality, affordable products that make it easy to achieve this season’s hottest makeup looks at home. Sorbet Makeup is currently celebrating their fourth birthday, an incredible milestone and a testament to the brand’s popularity. Did you know that Sorbet studied real South African skin tones to design a colour palette inclusive of all South Africans? And while their foundations have become a staple in many makeup lovers’ kits, they also offer a variety of products for lips, eyes, nails and skin.

These are the autumn makeup trends we’re most excited about (and the Sorbet products we’ll be using to create the looks):

Metallic eyes
It’s been dubbed the biggest eye makeup trend of autumn 2022: metallic eyes are here to transform your eyeshadow game. Expect to see plenty of metallic smokey eyes featuring shades of copper, gold, bronze, silver, pewter and purple. The intense metal eye is a fresh take on the classic smokey eye, and we’re expecting to see it throughout winter as well. If eyeliner’s more your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that metallic liner will be equally big this season.

Tip: You can make your own metallic eyeliner using your favourite eyeshadow and a liner brush. Simply wet your brush and dip it into your eyeshadow (or gently lift colour by sweeping the brush across the shadow), and tap it to remove excess powder. Then simply apply across your top eyelid like you would a gel liner.

We love Sorbet’s Eye-To-Eye Eyeshadow Quads in Showgirl and Moody Metallic. The handy quad makes it easy to perfect a metallic smokey eye as your colour combination is already selected.

Voluminous eyelashes
In recent years we’ve seen a major uptake in voluminous eyelashes, and this season is no different. Autumn / Winter runways showcased fluttery eyelashes in all shapes and sizes, but one factor rules all: volume. If you’re partial to a false lash, we recommend putting Sorbet’s Silk Lashes to the test. Easy to apply, these lashes give a defined look while adding length and volume. Simply cut them to length (a pair of small nail scissors works best), and apply a thin line of adhesive along the lash band. Let it dry for a minute or two, and then apply the lashes, starting at the outer corner of the eye, hugging the lash line as closely as possible.

If you prefer a volumising mascara for every-day glam, we recommend Sorbet Mesmereyes Waterproof Mascara. Not only will it last all day (or night!), but it provides plenty of volume and definition.

Tip: Look down into a hand mirror on your dressing table when applying mascara instead of applying it head-on like the rest of your makeup. This allows you to coat your lashes from root to tip, and to get a more even application.

Flawless skin for a “no makeup” foundation look
Since the start of the covid-19 pandemic, natural, healthy-looking skin has been a major trend, which was a welcome change after a few seasons of HD makeup and contouring. This autumn you’ll see plenty more “barely there” makeup looks, with light foundation coverage and a smooth finish. The “no makeup” look is about embracing your skin and enhancing it, not covering it up. A simple three-step routine of prep, foundation and a touch of highlighter will leave your skin looking naturally gorgeous.

Prep your canvas with Sorbet’s Refine + Protect 3 In 1 Hydration + Skin Treatment Primer SPF30. This best-selling primer refines, protects and hydrates the skin, ensuring a smoother foundation application, blurring of imperfections and longer-lasting foundation.

We recommend waiting two or three minutes for your primer to settle onto the skin before applying foundation. Sorbet Face First SPF15 Anti-Ageing Foundation + Serum gives you a soft-focus effect for a flawless finish. It is filled with moisturising and anti-ageing ingredients like Q10, peptides and antioxidants to protect your skin. It is easily blendable and buildable, allowing you to control your coverage. If you want a little bit more coverage and a foundation that conceals well, we recommend Sorbet Cover & Go SPF6 Foundation & Concealer. This moisturising formula offers flexible high coverage with a matching full coverage concealer in the lid and contains skin-loving antioxidants vitamin A, E and C.

For a natural-looking glow, we recommend a light blush or highlighter along the top of the cheekbones. Sorbet What A Cheek Blush Cheek Stamp offers a strong pop of colour that can be blended using a brush or sponge. It’s highly pigmented, so you only need a touch of product. If highlighter is more your thing, you’ll love Sorbet’s Glow and Tell Liquid Highlighter. It provides a fresh and dewy look and contains silicones and mica for a smooth finish and a light-diffusing and shimmer effect.

Bold lips
Bold lips are back in a big way this autumn, and with face masks no longer required outdoors, we’re expecting a major lipstick resurgence over the coming months. Expect shades of berry, brown and striking red to take centre stage. To ensure your lip colour stays in place for longer, and to avoid bleeding around the edges, we recommend using a lip liner before applying your matching lipstick.

Tip: For an extra pop of colour and longevity, colour in your lips with your lip liner instead of just outlining them. That way, when your lipstick wears off, you’ll have a full base colour and not just an outline of colour.

Try Sorbet Lips Stay Put Line-Up Duo Lip Liner. This waterproof formula stays put and offers rich colour payoff and high coverage. The soft pencil offers easy application and blending. Once your lip colour is in place, apply Sorbet Get Lippy Moisturising Lip Colour, a long-lasting lipstick that glides on with ease. Enriched with coconut oil, lanolin and vitamins C and E, it boasts moisturising and nourishing properties.

Fluffy brows
Season after season we see the full brow dominating makeup trends. This autumn, the fluffy brow is set to make a major appearance: while still full, the fluffy brow emphasises lift and structure. It’s usually fluffy in the front and full at the arch before tapering down to a sharp or neat point. With the right products, fluffy brows can be achieved even if you weren’t born with naturally full eyebrows.

Before you start to fill your brows with colour, brush the hairs upward with your fingers or a spoolie brush to give them a fluffy texture. A brow gel or wax will help set look: we recommend the brow wax and mini spoolie in the Sorbet Eyebrow Kit. Next up, it’s time to fill in sparse areas. Use a light hand when applying colour to your brows and build your colour gradually rather than applying a lot at once. Sorbet Browsability Duo Brow Pencil is a highly pigmented brow pencil and highlighter in one. Use the brow pencil side to fill and shape your arches in light, feathery strokes, before applying the highlighter side to your arches for added definition. If you prefer a powder formula over a pencil formulation, the brow powder in the Sorbet Eyebrow Kit is for you. To make sure your brows stay in place, spray a little bit of hairspray onto a clean spoolie and gently run the through the hairs in a upward motion to set them in place.
