  1. Hmm. I like Essence makeup, the packaging is always and on point and the prices are pretty hard to beat. These lipsticks are great if you’re just starting out with makeup, the textures are smooth and creamy with a silky finish. The colours could be a little more pigmented and they they don’t have much staying power – but still a good product.

  2. The packaging attractive, the price awesome and the colours breathtaking. Love this range.

  3. The Essence lipsticks are actually great value for money! And with such a bargain price you can totally afford to own all the colors you want, they are smooth and creamy on lips and the colors are great.

  4. This is the best affordable lipstick there is. The range brags many colours to suit all skintones. It does not last very long, I often have to touch my lip colour up (even when wearing lip liner underneath) but at 40 bucks a pop, I wasn’t expecting much more. I have bought many of these to use in case of beauty emergencies, one in my handbag, one at work, one at my boyfriend’s place, for the car, etc. The lipstick case is very simple and practical. I will definitely continue to purchase this product and if you haven’t tried it yet, I hope that you do very soon! You will surely love it as much as the rest of us.

  5. I’d love to put these to the test. I’ve been seeing them on shelves and they are very affordable.

  6. I love the XXXL gloss. It moisturizes my lips and gives it that glossy look. It smells nice and gives colour too. It is a non-sticky, moisturising lip gloss. I love the applicator: it’s skinnier than most and this makes for easy, precise application. I adore the pretty, glittery bits, as it’s feminine and fun. The lip gloss has a hugely high shine, which is great for those nights on the town. The scent is delicately sweet yet fruity. It’s also very hydrating. It stays on for quite a while and is great value for money.

  7. These are great if you want a natural/sheer looking lip color. I love that the packaging matches the color of the lipstick. They are also very affordable and will last long if worn over lip liner.

  8. The Essence Lipstick in 64 Flirty Pink is a pink toned berry shade that will be perfect for this Autumn and Winter. In the lipstick bullet you can see a substantial amount of gold shimmer, which at first put me off, but after application you could hardly notice the shimmer and it ends up looking gorgeous on the lips.

It is definitely not the most luxurious looking packaging, but for R39 (wow!) you can’t really complain too much. The plastic casing is an almost perfect match to the lipstick inside making it really easy to identify in your makeup stash.

There are three things that I do not like about the Essence Lipsticks. First of all, the lipstick applies extremely sheer. You really need to get in there with four to five coats before the colour really shows up on your lips. Secondly, the lipstick is not very moisturizing and I find myself reaching for lip balms within an hour of wear. Finally, the lasting power is very poor. By an hour, I have hardly any lipstick left on my lips, and this life span is even shorter when you try and eat or drink with it.

Overall this is not my favourite lipstick and I would recommend you rather save up and buy a different lipstick.

  9. This budget-friendly product glides on easily and smells nice. It is soft and smooth on the lips for a long time.

  10. I really prefer the long lasting versions. However, I have tried shades “Look at me” and “femme fatale”. They didn’t last on my lips, however I recommend filling in your lips with a matching lip liner from Essence to make them long-lasting. For the price, I don’t mind making an extra effort.
