What we say:
I’ve always been a fan of Maybelline and was quite excited to try out their Eye Studio Diamond Glow eyeshadow. There are six colour palettes to choose from, so I opted for 01 Purple Drama. It contains four shimmer shades – a white highlight, light pink, metallic lilac and dark purple. I really didn’t care for the tiny sponge tip applicator (I had to reapply a couple of times to get the desired look) so I would suggest you rather use brushes for applying and blending colours. On my first try, I followed the guidelines on the back of the product and while it blended well and looked posh and dramatic, I’d only use that for a night out on the town. For a daytime look, I chose to wear only the two lighter colours with the white shade, which still looked classic and pretty. If you’re not a ‘sparkly’ person, you won’t love these palettes as they do have a lot of shimmer to them. However, they are still great for an evening out and will definitely add some glam to your look!

When I first saw this new range of eyeshadows, I was blown away by the colours on offer – not only is there a variety to choose from, but the colour combinations are stunning. I love that each colour is numbered, and a small guide on the back of the palette shows you which colour goes on which part of the eye – it makes application so much easier! The shadow applied beautifully and the colour was unusually rich – one sweep left a shade on my lid the exact same colour as the shade in the palette. I was surprised at how little product I needed as it coated my lids so quickly, and it blended extremely well too.

My one and only criticism is that the shadow didn’t last as long as I would have liked it to. Usually by 5pm my eyeshadow still looks relatively decent, but on this occasion, by 5pm it was quite noticeably creased in my lids, and was no longer as vibrant as it was that morning. For an affordable product I would say it performs relatively well, however, a bit more longevity would have gone a long way for me.

I seldom wear eyeshadow, and I am very picky with the few eyeshadow palettes I do own. I have always struggled with drug store eyeshadows as I feel that they are never quite as pigmented as the high-end eyeshadows.

The first thing that caught my eye with the Maybelline Eye Studio Diamond Glow Eyeshadow was the stunning selection of shades available. Each quad palette comes with four eyeshadow hues within a shade range. The quad that I selected was made up of gorgeous rich browns and golds to create the perfect bronze smokey eye.

When applying the eyeshadow I noticed that it was very glittery and unfortunately the glitter didn’t blend away which I wasn’t particularly pleased with as I prefer to keep my day time make-up look glitter free.

The eyeshadow formula isn’t as highly pigmented as I would have liked, but for the first few hours of wear it certainly did the trick. In my opinion these eyeshadow quads are better suited to a younger target market. While I won’t be reaching for this eyeshadow quad on a daily basis, if you are a fan of sparkly eyeshadow, then I would recommend you give these a try. With 6 shades to choose from, you are certain to find a shade you love.

  1. Contains four Beautiful eye shadows which are soft with a smooth texture. They have a decent pigmentation and blend easily. The packaging is quite nice as it is really slim so it is space efficient and very handy for travel. It’s very easy to use. I love the fact that the top cover is transparent which allows one to locate these easily if you own more than one. But now the disadvantage is that the textures are too powdery, poor staying power on oily lids.
