If you suffer from difficult periods, you’ll know the many challenges that come with monthly menstruation. From pain, to bloating, to breakouts, fatigue and more, having your period every month really isn’t for sissies.

But on top of that, as females, our hormones can also wreak havoc during the rest of the month, affecting our weight, mood, skin and digestion.

Kiko Vitals – a local brand that specialises in female wellness products – works with a team of female naturopaths and scientists to create supplements consisting of a synergistic blend of 100% natural ingredients that help balance hormones, maintain a healthy gut and ease many of the symptoms associated with menstruation, menopause and conditions like endometriosis.

Our editor recently put two products to the test – the well-known Hormone Balance supplement and the recently-launched Moon Balm.

Hormone Balance is a hormone-balancing supplement filled with natural ingredients like chasteberry, ashwagandha, red raspberry leaf, maca and more. It helps regulate your cycle, assists with minimizing excessive bleeding, and helps women with hormonal imbalances, PCOS, menopause and endometriosis. It may also assist with hormone-related weight gain, PMS and acne. Because it only contains high quality minerals and plant-based ingredients (and is free from fillers, binders and artificial colourants, flavourants etc.) it is safe and can be used regardless of whether you are taking an oral contraception or have the Mirena (IUD).

Moon Balm is a one-of-a-kind product that is designed to offer relief from period pain and migraines. A luxurious balm that can be massaged into the lower abdomen or temples for pain relief, it also soothes tension and calms inflammation. It contains lavender (promotes relaxation and stress relief, easing muscle tension and headaches), peppermint (enhances circulation and provides a cooling effect, offering immediate relief from discomfort), butterfly pea protein (rich in antioxidants, supports skin health and provides overall antioxidant protection) and ginger root (exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, reducing swelling, pain, and inflammation).

Hormone Balance and Moon Balm make a great pair – here’s what our editor thinks of the duo:

“In my early 20s, painful and heavy periods had become a regular part of my life. I was used to having a day or two of bad pain and discomfort, and relied on painkillers to get through the day. Fast forward a decade, and things are very much the same. I still have two days of pain, and I am also prone to bloating, breakouts the week before my period and a general feeling of discomfort and fatigue.

I had tried several natural supplements in the past but found no relief. That was until I started using Kiko Vitals Hormone Balance in 2023. I was initially introduced to the product through work, but did my research and found that so many women swear by it. I decided to give it a go, and there has been no looking back.

I started taking it religiously every day, and it took two or three cycles before the results kicked in. I found the monthly pain I had grown accustomed to, to be much less severe, and some months I was able to skip taking painkillers altogether. While my period is still on the heavy side, that also improved and I found that the duration was a day or so shorter.

In addition, I noticed an improvement in my skin. Like clockwork, I would get one or two breakouts around my mouth or chin area the week before my period, but after taking Hormone Balance for a few months, this was reduced to the odd pimple now and then.

After taking the supplement for several months, I suddenly ran out one morning, and kept forgetting to reorder the product. Life got busy, and before I knew it, a month had passed. I decided to take a break for a couple of months and I regretted it before long. My next few cycles were incredibly painful again, heavy and my skin acted up. This, to me, was real life evidence that the supplement really worked. Late last year I decided it was time to start taking it again, and after about two cycles, I once again experienced less pain, less discomfort and better skin.

For me, it’s been a real lifesaver, because I prefer to take a natural supplement whenever possible. I love that Kiko Vitals Hormone Balance does not contain any artificial ingredients or unnecessary binders and that the natural ingredients they use are not only high quality, but are also proven to work.

For the last two cycles I have also included the Moon Balm in my regime. On the days when I experience period pain, I gently massage some of the balm into my lower abdomen and allow it to absorb. Designed to relieve inflammation and tension, and to minimise pain, the balm definitely helps. Whenever I use it, I notice a reduction in pain and I feel more relaxed after breathing in the beautiful scent.

I must mention that while the balm helps reduce pain for me, it does not eliminate it entirely and likely won’t take away severe period pain if not used in conjunction with a supplement like Hormone Balance. But nevertheless, I have experienced results from it, and I love using it. It smells heavenly and instantly relaxes me.

If you are interested in natural ways of treating hormonal imbalances, PCOS, menopause or even if you’re just fed up with hormonal breakouts or heavy periods, I would strongly recommend looking into the various options on offer from Kiko Vitals. It has worked wonders for me and I’ve heard similar feedback from many other women.” Anien – Editor
