Serums vs Moisturisers: Win with Optiphi

Serums vs Moisturisers: Win with Optiphi 1

Do you know the difference between a serum and a moisturiser?

Serums are lightweight formulations with a higher concentration of active ingredients than moisturisers. They are usually thin and readily absorbed into the skin, leaving little remaining on the surface of the skin.

Serums address a variety of skin concerns, from anti-ageing, skin brightening, hydration or oil regulation.  They are designed to penetrate deeply into the skin, due to their smaller molecular size.

Moisturisers have a thicker texture to create a physical barrier on the surface of the skin to lock in moisture and prevent dehydration. Some moisturisers have added anti-ageing or brightening ingredients, so they can be multi-functional.

Serums and moisturisers are designed to be used together. Skincare products are layered from thinnest to thickest, with the thinnest product being applied to the skin first.

Serums are intended to deliver active ingredients deep into the skin, while moisturisers forms a seal to make serums more effective and to protect from the external environment.

Expert tip: Apply your serum onto your face and neck, and wait 30 -60 seconds for the serum to absorb properly before you apply your moisturiser.

Serums and moisturisers can be used both morning and evening. Thanks to optiphi®’s time controlled diffusion technology, even their retinol serums can be used during the day without making the skin more light sensitive.
