What’s better than a classic though? An updated one, so meet Elizabeth Arden’s new Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum which contains triple the anti-ageing power of the original.
Each golden, biodegradable tab contains a powerful solution of ceramides which are fatty molecules that assist in moisture retention, support natural collagen levels and improve skin tone. Although it feels a bit thick to the touch at first, the contents seep into the skin smoothly and quickly leaving no residue or piling. We also liked that it is fragrance-free.
So how does it work? Well, the most common, naturally occurring lipids in the outer layer of your skin are ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids. Ceramides represent about 50% of the essential lipids found in the skin’s barrier, while Cholesterol makes up 25% and Fatty Acids another 10 to 15%. While all of these lipids work together to help fortify the skin’s moisture barrier, ceramides have been found to be the most important for maintaining barrier function.
Your skin’s ceramide levels decrease rapidly with age – by the time you reach your 30s you will have lost about 40% of your skin’s ceramides, and by your 40s you will have lost more than 60% of your skin’s ceramides. Eek! This decrease in essential lipids causes the skin to appear dry, dull and can result in wrinkles, unevenness and loss of firmness.
The new formula claims to take up to 10 years off the look of skin. In clinical tests done by the company, 95% of women demonstrated a significant improvement in firmness after just two weeks.
While we can’t vouch for that yet – we’ve only been using it for a week – and still look thirtysomething, we’ve definitely noticed a difference to the dry patches our skin. With winter on its way, we’ll take that result happily for now.
