Snacks for after that workout

"SnacksIt’s a vicious cycle. When we eat we gain weight. But we have to eat to live. So what are we supposed to eat when we’re ravenous after a hard workout? Real Beauty break the ‘good’ foods down for us.

Hunger hits hardest after a session in the gym. Avoid ruining your calorie count with these sensible snacks that are high in protein, calcium, and fiber. Finally you can keep your energy up so that your weight will stay down.

Edamame
Soybeans are a satisfying source of fiber, protein and amino acids. All those nutrients ensure your heart stays healthy and your bones are strong.

Chocolate milk
Mixing the antioxidant power of dark chocolate and the calcium of milk helps your muscles recover from a long workout. So go ahead, rock a milk mustache again.

Hard-boiled egg
Eggs get a bad rap for their cholesterol content. But at 78 calories, one boiled egg packs a protein punch that will fill you up between meals.

Greek yogurt
This divine dairy snack is perfect for after your morning run. Top with fruit and granola to add extra health benefits to this cholesterol free food.

Peanut butter
Peanut butter and bananas, peanut butter and apples, peanut butter and celery, or a classic PB&J. The possibilities are endless with this spread that is rich in protein.

Cheese
Revive your favorite after school snack – cheese and crackers (or mix with sliced turkey). Opt for cottage, feta, or goat varieties, which pack the least amount of calories and fat.

Baked sweet potato
Swap the pie for a snack that is naturally sweet. You have probably tried sweet potato chips and fries, but just sprinkle these beta-carotene boosting spuds with cinnamon to create festive food.

Pistachios
This little green pod is the Superman of nuts. Substitute your pretzel snack for a Ziploc filled with these to reach your weight loss goals.

Frozen grapes
Looking for a low-calorie dessert, then head to the fruit basket. Frozen grapes can be a refreshing way to cool down after a session at the gym.

Avocado
If you’re craving something fatty and filling, turn to the avocado. Slice on top of your next sandwich instead of mayo or whip up some guacamole. This antioxidant rich bite will help you burn more calories per day.

Cauliflower
So you are craving a bowl of buttered popcorn, but want to avoid the calories? Try roasting cauliflower florets for an interesting take on a popular movie time meal.

Hummus
This calcium-rich snack will help you stave off your desire for carbonated drinks like soda. Garbanzo beans are also rich in fiber, so pair with pita chips or veggies.

  1. My boyfriend always said chocolate milk is a legitimate recovery drink. I’m going to have to apologise to him :P

  2. Luckily, I love most of the healthy foods, but I am also a chocolate addict. Wish I could break that habit!
