Three ways to stop the effects of flu on your skin

The flu's effect on your skin

Everything feels about ten times worse when you have the flu.

It’s not enough that your nasal passages feel like they’ll never quite be the same, or that your whole body feels like it’s having menstrual cramps. No, our skin needs to suffer, too. Thanks winter?!

When your skin is dry, and your nose is congested, the last thing you want to do is a full skincare routine. But you won’t have to. With just a few tips, you can help get yourself and your skin out the other side of tissue mound hell. Here they are:

Stay hydrated.

This feels like a tip you can apply to almost any given situation, but it’s especially important when your immune system is compromised. When your body is dehydrated, it can’t do its normal magic on your skin, and may also cause puffiness around the eyes. Great. Gulp up, babe!

Make your moisturiser earn its place on your top shelf

Is your nose swollen, irritated, and sore to the touch? Ow. Now’s the time for moisturiser to work like it’s never worked before. Gently dab some on between nose blows, taking care to choose ingredients that are rich and soothing, like an emollient (say, squalane for example), or an oil (jojoba works wonders).

Avoid hot water

A scalding hot bath or shower might be tempting when you’re not feeling your best, but the hotter the water and the longer the wash, the more your skin is stripped of its natural oils. Put a different way, you’re on the speed train to dry skin.No thanks. Run your showers a little cooler than usual, and make sure to have a fluffy gown ready to meet you after. Sounds comfy, right?

  1. I wake up every morning to a cup of hot water, lemon, honey and ginger! Say no to flu!

  2. Having flu is stressing and I certainly hate getting sick…I would usually have blocked nose and dry chest especially when I cough and it’s painful.

So I usually drink Medlemon or make cough remedy at home which includes few slice of lemon, ground black pepper, spoon of honey and mix it all up with cup of hot water,After drinking it you’ll feel better.Try it and tell me how it is

  3. whenever i get the flu i usually stay hydrated with water and i also drink ginger tea which leaves me feeling warm . i’ll admit i never took note of the changes flu can have on my skin but now i know what to look out for.
